Lin Manuel Miranada took a stand against Trump and stuck up for the performing arts professionals, which is more than I can say about nearly everyone in Congress and all the billionaires kowtowing before Trump for fear of becoming slightly less rich.

The hit musical Hamilton is canceling its 2026 run at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. This is in response to President Trump's decision to take over the art institution last month.

According to a statement by Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller on X, "The recent purge by the Trump Administration of both professional staff and performing arts events at or originally produced by the Kennedy Center flies in the face of everything this national center represents."

The statement goes on to explain that the move to cancel was a business decision, as it would've been "financially and personally devastating to the employees of Hamilton if the new leadership of the Kennedy Center suddenly cancelled or re-negotiated our engagement."

This was a ridiculous, attention-seeking move by Lin Manuel Miranda.

He should have kept producing Hamilton at the Kennedy Center because:
1) He should provide this opportunity to as many patrons as possible. Now is not the time to censor yourself.
2) Canceling because you believe someone "might" do something is not a provable harm done to you. Let the show run and if someone cancels your production, then you have a cause for damages.
3) Outside of ultra left-wing circles this looks like LMM did this to himself, and no one is up in arms about civil rights transgressions because factually there weren't any.

Oh please. The entire arts community has been wondering if Hamilton was going to be cancelled. The show already took a stand against Pence.

This was a smart business decision and you have to get billionaires in their pocketbooks.

They didn't get Trump or the KC in the pocketbook! The KC gets most of their funding from donations.

Now the most that Hamilton supporters can say is that they were "wondering if Hamilton might get canceled." They should have stayed and forced the issue. Then there would be a public outcry if they actually got canceled.

They are performing artists and crew, not your political props

After how they treat VP Pence they should have been run out of town.

Why must every one of you morons be functionally illiterate?

Of course, everyone is illiterate who doesn't agree with you, lol. No artist should single out and admonish an audience member.

Why not?

Not for sitting there peacefully wanting to enjoy a show like everyone else.

Pence wasn't offended, so why should you be?

Too bad you lack the intellectual curiosity. My whole family loved it, and it's inspired some great discussion with my kids about the nature of courage, war, policy-making and compromise when you're trying to achieve a larger goal.

Why does someone saying it doesn’t interest them lead to you attacking them?

Exactly, who cares? Hamilton can hit the road!

Name another show that will bring in as much money? The KC is failing and broke.

Springtime for Hitler.

Bringing up someone who murdered millions, you are unhinged.

Oh, honey.

I’m not the PP, but the way this is flying over your head reveals that you are not knowledgeable enough to be participating in a musical theater discussion!

There are no black MAGAs so they’ll be fine.

I had to go back a page just to connect the comments. How does one not know that reference?

You can “click to show earlier quotes” and thus not have to go back to previous pages, FYI.

People have already named quite a few: Les Miserables, Lion King, Moulin Rouge, South Pacific, The King and I, Rent, Aida, Miss Saigon, Oliver Twist, Matilda, etc. There are SO many great shows that appeal to a wide audience.
NP

lol There are many like the above which are of much better quality!

Oh my goodness. We have conversations about politics and world events all the time - and all without seeing some idiotic show that sounds like elementary school kids trying to rap at the talent show. High art, this is not - but do lecture the rest of us about "intellectual curiosity"!

DP. You cannot be serious... ever heard of "The Producers"?? Now THAT would be a great choice for the Kennedy Center.
