Restaurants that ARE worth it

Not after the Sarah Huckabee incident. That was just wrong on the part of management (currently planning to close and reopen under a new name because of the justified outrage on Yelp and other sources). I won't go under the new name as well. Nor will any of my friends.

Please do tell me more about this alleged incident at the Red Hen in DC.

I'm sad that the lunch buffet never returned after Covid shut it down. I live walking distance from there and when DH and I both end up wfh on the same day we like to go there for lunch. Really miss that buffet.

Me too, but they've gotten ridiculously expensive!

Cheesecake Factory has crapped out. We have been going there for years and they started slipping a little during the pandemic but the last 2 times the food was just bad. We’ve permanently crossed it off the list.

I wonder if the Haandi in Falls Church is owned by the same people who own Haandi in Bethesda. The Bethesda one is great (and reliable!), too!

They were owned by the same family, but I heard the brothers had a falling out and the Bethesda one changed its name. They’re both very good. Their palak paneer is the best I’ve ever had.

I’m also enjoying Taco Bamba. I used to think it was TacObama. I like the Jeneral and the Dinga Dinga.

Agreed, entrees are running $25 now. Appetizers are big, shareable and a little more reasonable.

It's a chain but I love it. So do the kids. I think they eat more here than anywhere else.

The Rockville KPOT is nasty. It's really dirty and unkept. Urban Hot Pot is better.

They slipped a long time ago. I used to love them. Portion sizes went way down and prices went way up.

There's really not a giant amount of calculus going on for cheap restaurants with plates below $25. People want to know what is worth it. That means places where you have to spend a much more significant sum. No one gives a crap about a $13 pho place and whether or not you think it is worth it. No one is going to lose sleep over a bad $13 plate. People will get perturbed though if they spend $500 for a finer dining experience and are vastly underwhelmed.

No one cares about cheap eats.

Speak for yourself, you snob.

I love cheap eats, especially in this economy.
