I am a Gay female and attend St Philips Episcopal Church in Laurel. It is very traditional as far as the service goes but our rector is a gay married woman, we got married there a few years ago, and the congregation is very welcoming. They also have a lot of community outreach which is something I enjoy.

Hughes United Methodist Church in Wheaton is a reconciling (pro lgbt) church. For a full list, check out this page:

OP, do you come from a particular faith tradition that has elements you would like to replicate. I'm queer and grew up in Quaker and UU congregations. I took my daughter to a UCC church and the people were lovely and welcoming, but it was a little too heavily Jesus-focused for me because I come from a more humanist perspective, but maybe UCC would work for you, or a welcoming and affirming Methodist church?

correction, I meant reconciling, like the pp stated, when I referred to the Methodists.

not the OP but the Methodist church as a whole is not very welcoming. Individual churches may be but they still have rules to follow. I would stick with Episcopalian.

We are members of the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church. Many Presbyterian Churches are More Light churches which means that they are explicitly affirming. The Takoma Park Presbyterian Church is one of the more light churches.

Methodists are going through some stuff on this front right now. It's something I'd really want to know about how a specific church was reacting before going regularly.

I just googled "open and affirming churches near me" and came up with a bunch of options - ended up at a Baptist church (in NoVa, not MD, sorry), which was new to me but a really welcoming community.
