A size 22 should not require a 47" hip.

For cheap dresses that I expect to wear in very sweaty weather, I like Uniqlo. I have this dress:

And this one:

Got the Banana Republic one for my mother for her birthday but I might keep it. Little shapeless but the white is not see-through and great pockets.

Like those Uniqlo dresses.

Like the BR one too, but the V seems like it might be too low. Also wonder how it would look belted.

I tried it on - got the XS for her and it still fit me - I'm normally a small or even medium depending on the dress cut. The V was not as deep as it looked on pics and the way the fabric is double layered there makes it seem more modest. But, I'm flat so don't mind low. I tried it belted too - it worked but honestly looked better just free. It's a really nice dress. Maybe I'll just order a second one for me.

Power of suggestion ... I just ordered it!

I'm petite and I cannot do these big tent dresses. Hoping this one will work for casual summer get-togethers!

I love that Florrie dress from Boden. I got something very similar from a consignment shop and it's one of the most flattering casual dresses I own (size 10 ~hourglass figure).

Regarding the Spanx dress, what is the fit like? In particular, does the fabric cling or float away from the body and hold its shape.

I really like it in the stripe and it would be perfect for travel, but I'm a little bottom heavy and sometimes t-shirt dresses like that cling to my hips in an unflattering way.

In fact, I’ve notice that I get a lot of casual dresses from REI just because there’s a pretty good selection, it’s easy to order online and return to a store, and they tend to be great for being out and about/physical activities without looking like athletic wear. Here are a few more I thought were cute:

I just got that second Uniqlo dress and like it. Wasn’t sure if it would be too overwhelming for my 5’4” frame but it works. I like that it has an attached slip underneath because I always struggle with armholes being too big and I can cinch the slip straps up slightly and then my bra doesn’t show- yay.

Anonymous wrote:That J Crew dress is pretty. I'm concerned those arms are so big you'd see fully down them if you lifted your arm a little.

I've seen this Target dress on a few insta posts, enough that I am intrigued:

https://www.target.com/p/women-s-long-sleeve-cinch-waist-maxi-shirtdress-universal-thread/-/A-89465084?preselect=89551759#lnk=sametab

It's long sleeve but I've mostly seen people style it with the sleeves pushed up.

That looks like a bedsheet. Especially the green stripe one.

Agree. That dress would swallow me. The Jcrew dress isn’t much better.

I don’t understand what this post means. Are you saying the hip on a size 22 should be larger?

It fits really well- I have big boobs and was worried about fit but it is not tight but not to loose. The fabric is thicker and has a little bit of stretch so it holds it shape. I have worn it to work with a blazer and to a casual gathering and it is very comfortable

I just got the J McLaughlin catalog in the mail (though I've never bought anything from them before) and thought they had some cute dresses.

https://www.jmclaughlin.com/collections/new-arrivals-women-dresses

I particularly like this linen dress because it has sleeves, comes in a few colors and can be belted.

https://www.jmclaughlin.com/products/nylee-linen-dress-solid-tan

Not sure of quality from J McLaughlin. Can anyone speak to that?
