Neighbor feeding squirrels

All fun and games until the actual rats show up. Which they will.

Encourage her to feed the birds, and point out that even if she gets a feeder that's squirrel-proof, squirrels will find ways to eat leftovers anyway. That way, she will prioritize birds, who need winter sustenance, but also help out squirrels (who don't really need it). Also, when it's below freezing, what birds really need is fresh water! That's why some people have heated bird fountains

How do you think birds survived before we started feeding them?

OP, No one should be feeding squirrels. I had to pay $5000 to replace siding on my house after squirrels chewed 6" holes in my siding.

I had to pay critter gitters to get the squirrels out of my attic.

I also have a neighbor next door feeding squirrels.

If it is not illegal, she can do it. Call the police or Dept if Natural Tesources and ask.

I would approach her like another adult (your peer-not some doddering old lady), just say that some if the neighbors worry that her feeding is attracting squirrels to the neighborhood and causing problems. Would she consider doing it at a park?

Wrong. They can go in your attic/eaves.

Don’t want squirrels where you live? Buy a condo in a high rise and advocate for less encroaching on thrit habitat by SFHs.

Honestly.

I have a few squirrels come eat at my house and they bring me so much joy just watching them because they’re so cute.

I hope EVERY one of you squirrel haters who do horrible sh*t like poison/trap them… are reincarnated as a squirrel that also experiences being trapped/poisioned.

Honestly, disgusting and horrible humans.

By having a large natural habitat of native weeds and plant to feed off of -- which they no longer have.

They fix you house so they can't get in. It's not the squirrels' fault that you have failed to properly maintain your house. We have tons of squirrels and other wild life and none have ever come in the house.

SMDH that you are upset about freaking squirrels. But, get a dog that will chase the squirrels, problem solved.

That would be the thing to complain about. OP is ridiculous b/c ... squirrels. I guarantee OP never knew about oak masting until this thread.

Also, this gives her joy. Leave her alone.

Just tell her that.

Yes, please do if you are a raging dick.

We have an outdoor compost with food scraps, loads of bird feeders, and we sometimes throw treats to the squirrels and other animals.

Never have even seen a rat. If rats are there, they're there regardless of the squirrels.

Bunch of drama queens on here.

Why do you people live anywhere that has trees or vegetation of any kind if you hate birds and squirrels so much?

There are plenty of cement forests where you can happily listen to nothing but traffic.

Of course, they have rats, too.... Because rats are everywhere.
