For a quick thriller I enjoyed Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak
I did read The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark. It's a good book. More of a game of Cat & Mouse with two women keeping secrets from each other, but still becoming friends in a way. |
I LOVED The Heart’s Invisible Furies, so much so I ordered my own copy after reading it from the library! Another suggestion - My Ex-Life. |
Just preordered thanks to this rec! It sounds like a really fun book. Did you get an ARC? |
I did get an ARC of the Lies I Tell, through NetGalley. But it also came out early with Book of the Month. So I would have gotten it there if my ARC request didn't get granted. |
Not the PP here, but also read most of those books and currently really enjoying Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I loved Circe so much I bought the Song of Achilles paperback, but haven't gotten to it yet. A friend who read both said she loved Circe but preferred The Silence of the Girls to Song of Achilles. Homegoing is an intense read but worth it. Pachinko is also excellent. These may have already been mentioned and/or you may have already read, but you might like: Giver of Stars (Jojo Moyes) Four Winds (Kristin Hannah) The Henna Artist (Alka Joshi) Ask Again, Yes (Mary Beth Keane) Daisy Jones and the Six (Taylor Jenkins Reid- I didn't do the audiobook, but devoured this in one weekend, such a great summer read) FWIW, this is my current queue since it sounds like maybe we have similar tastes: Song of Achilles (soon, I swear! )
One, Two, Three (Laurie Frankel- really liked This Is How It Always Is) The Push (Ashley Audrain) The Silent Patient (Alex Michaelides) Damascus Station (David McCloskey) Conversations with Friends and Beautiful World, Where Are You (Sally Rooney- enjoyed Normal People; have heard Beautiful World isn't as good as the other two) Harlem Shuffle (Colson Whitehead; glad to see someone here liked it!) |
| If you're looking for a good trashy beach read, American Royals was fun! |
| Really enjoyed "The School for Good Mothers" by Jessamine Chan |
PP from pg. 1 that likes Anne Tyler and Ann Patchett. I also have very similar taste in books! DH did not care for Song of Achilles as much and I loved Circe so I am hesitant to read it...maybe report back here after you read it? I think you'll enjoy the books about your queue. Some others that I think you may like: The Dearly Beloved by Cara Wall Save Me the Plums (memoir) by Ruth Reichl Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes Writers and Lovers by Lily King |
| Loved American Dirt. Didn’t think it sounded good but finally picked it up after so many people told me they loved it and I read it in two days. |
So many bad reviews of Wayward on Amazon. You guys really thought it was good? |
And 3.35 on goodreads |
Yes, I really did!!! I think it helps to be on the older side (I’m late 40s) - YMMV, but I’m guessing my 20-something self couldn’t have related, and my 30-something self might have been too judgy of the main character? But at this age, I really appreciate how Spiotta explores the complexity of midlife - balancing multiple facets of our identity, not just me-as-mother above all else. Messy and not always pretty. But I thought it was a great take. |
I’m on the library (Libby) waitlist for this, but I’ve really enjoyed all his other books! |
| Just finished The tiger's wife - magical realism in the Balkans |
The Rose Code is even better than these other two. |
