She said that it happens in the middle of the night, it's usually a female who stands by her bedroom door, one of them looked like me, she said that she saw me once on all fours. another time, she saw a lady was standing by the window. I really don't know what to tell her except that they are good gosts. She has been saying this for about two years, the way she describes the scenes hasn't changed, it could be just her imagination, there's no way I could verify this. She insists that she is fully awake when she sees them and that it couldn't be a dream.

| I saw a "ghost" when I was about her age. I remember looking out the window and seeing her on the corner. It was probably a light reflectin. |
| OP here, I knew I had misspelled ghost, sorry, English is my third language. |
| Google hypnagogic hallucinations. Basically, sleep-onset REM--the sleeper is kind of half asleep and thinks they're still awake. Can be totally normal--although sleep disruption or deprivation may increase the frequency of the occurrence. |
My thought too. Mine were soiders crawling down the wall. It only lasts a few seconds or a minute. Ask DD how long this lasts. |

| Get her a shrink-ASAP! |
Believe me, they won't do a bloody thing that is useful. BTDT. Never got to the bottom of it and as DD got older she convinced herself she had schizophrenia and thus there was no point at exerting herself over anything--better to just enjoy what short time she'd have hold of her sanity than, say, do homework. Psychiatrists were of no help--for the most part. Mostly they tried all kinds of heavy duty drugs that didn't do a thing. I finally took her to one of the leading experts on childhood schizophrenia who was able to convince her she was not schizophrenic and she accepted because he was such an expert. It is now, many years later that the hallucinations are going away and life is coming together for her but we still have no clear idea what was going on. Best guess is anxiety driven--suggestion of the schizophrenia doctor. But I agree in OP's situation, hypnogogic hallucinations are the most likely answer. |

Why can't she see ghosts? When my son was very young, he would look at one corner of his room and laugh. As he grew older and could verbalize his thoughts, he told me about the older "blue man" who was in the corner.
He's certainly not schizophrenic. |
| The only thing I would worry about us if she found these ghosts to be scary. If they aren't, then leave her alone. |
+1. People's experiences of life and their environment differ, and I firmly believe there is much we do not yet know about our world. As long as it is not distressing her or causing other problems I would neither discount nor worry much about her experience of seeing ghosts. |
| If she is scared you could maybe suggest it is her guardian angel? Just a thought depending on your religion. |
| Why is it bad that she is seeing them? Is she scared? If she doesn't want to see them, she should ask them to leave. They will go. If they aren't concerning her, then I would leave it alone. She may truly have a gift. She has to be the one to decide whether to accept and develop that ability. |
I completely agree. If she's not scared, no biggie. If she is, like pp said, she should ask them to leave her. If really ghosts: they will leave. In my beliefs, ghosts are real but we have much more power than them (it's why I can't get on board with scary movies bc the ghost always has more power, but I literally believe they have no power unless evil, in which case you still have more power-it's just they'll try to exert more over you and you have to kick them out a little harder). If not ghosts and it's in her mind: telling them to leave could work too. Something in her subconscious could release them out of her consciousness. |

My mother told me that I had this when when I was between 8-12; she explained to me that sometimes people's spirits can come and go and that if I did not like them I could simply ask them to leave. She also said that if they didn't bother me l didn't have to do anything as they would come and go just like a squirrel, a butterfly or even a bird comes and goes. She asked me if I was ever bothered by a squirrel a butterfly or a bird and of course my reply was no.
Describing the spirits as if they were natural and comparing them to animals that will not get too close was brilliant on her part. My mother was raised by two ancient women from a tiny town in Sicily, they could read tea leaves and had incredible intuition, these women knew nothing about abnormal psychology and I am all the better for it. Had my mother not had that old country influence I too may have been hauled off to NIH for drug studies. The ghosts are gone for me and all is well, explain to your daughter that she may have a fabulous gift and a connection to other parts of the universe. Also be sure to say that you have heard of this and anyone or thing that visits her means her absolutely no harm. |
