DD 10 said that she sees gosts sometimes

My son had major surgery when he was four. The night after the surgery, I was sleeping on a cot in his hospital room, and I woke up because I heard him talking. I sat up and looked around and there was no one else in the room. I asked him who he was talking to, and he pointed to an empty space and said, I was talking to that pretty nurse. I told him there was no one there, and he said Yes, there is. Don't you see her? It was actually pretty cool he's 10 now, and he still remembers it.

My friend's daughter says she's seen ghosts, so has my friend.

OP if she isn't scared I would just leave it alone.

So I'm sure people will think I'm crazy but I think our house has a ghost of some sort. There have been strange noises and other random things over the years but I've never been afraid. My 6 year old got scared one night because she said she heard whispering in her room. I reassured her that she could have been dreaming and she accepted that. When she was at school I went into her room and talked out loud (yes, i'm fully aware how insane this sounds) and said I know you're here and that's fine but you scared my daughter and please leave her alone. She's never mentioned anything again.

You do not sound crazy. You handled it perfectly. A spirit will almost always leave when asked.

Was anyone ever murdered or did they commit suicide in your house?

If she's not scared, leave it alone (but keep an open dialect). Since I was a kid I've had sleep paralysis as well as other sleep issues where I hallucinate but am able to move more. Most of the time I have auditory hallucinations but sometimes visual.
For a long time one of my hallucinations began as hearing footsteps down the hall and then seeing someone in my room. It was so consistent that i knew she was coming the second I heard the footsteps.

The only time I got scared was when the paralysis started.

As an adult, I know the signs of an episode coming on. Even now though, I will hear footsteps in our house when no one is there.

You've been watching too many movies. There are many much more likely reasons a spirit may chose to visit. Some people are more sensitive. Children are usually able to see and communicate with spiritual beings easier than adults can.

It was probably the drugs he took for pain.

I honestly believe that when we die that we decompose and that's it. Like an ant or any other carbon based life form. I'd like to think I will see people again in some form that have died but my mind just won't let me believe that, I'd be faking it to myself, which I mean, what is the point of faking something you only share with yourself? I don't believe in the existence of a human soul, and believe its just the narrative around our awareness of our own existence.

So ghosts and spirits and all that to me have an alternate explanation. But that doesn't mean its not "real" in the sense that she might see things in her sleep, etc. So I agree with the advice that action is really only necessary if it bothers her.

She also said that if they didn't bother me l didn't have to do anything as they would come and go just like a squirrel, a butterfly or even a bird comes and goes. She asked me if I was ever bothered by a squirrel a butterfly or a bird and of course my reply was no.

Describing the spirits as if they were natural and comparing them to animals that will not get too close was brilliant on her part. My mother was raised by two ancient women from a tiny town in Sicily, they could read tea leaves and had incredible intuition, these women knew nothing about abnormal psychology and I am all the better for it. Had my mother not had that old country influence I too may have been hauled off to NIH for drug studies.
The ghosts are gone for me and all is well, explain to your daughter that she may have a fabulous gift and a connection to other parts of the universe. Also be sure to say that you have heard of this and anyone or thing that visits her means her absolutely no harm.

Your flippant statement is really offensive. My child participates in NIH research for her well documented disorder. Believe you me, seeing a benign ghost in the corner or out the window doesn't qualify you for a 'drug study'. I wish that were the extent of her 'visions'. NIH can't help my DD much but I'm hoping what they learn from her and the other families who participate will help others in the future - even your kids if their 'visions' become dangerous.

Does she take some allergy medicine like Benadryl? Known to cause night terrors, panic attacks, sleep walking, lack of deep sleep, might explain many of these. My DD used to sleepwalk, didn't say anything about seeing ghosts, but we would think she is full on possessed, and she was in some kind of a night terror, she still might get them. They don't have to be caused by medication, some people just have them. Usually people with great imagination.

I used to see things as a little kid. And hear people talking in my bedroom. I saw a lower case letter r "gallop" around my bed, from one side to the other. I saw a Looney Tunes monster in the doorway. And I heard people talking right next to me. Adults. But nobody was there.

It's called a hypnagogic hallucination. In my case at least. I didn't interact with them in any way and they didn't respond to anything I did. I can't account for people who say they interact with their apparitions. I outgrew it.
