| DS will be turning 12 in a few weeks and wants his ears pierced. He wants both pierced but is fine with only his left ear. Dh isn't thrilled with the idea but he's maintaining all A's and B's in school and is well behaved for his age. It's going to be hard to say "no" to him. He says he wants to step up his swag. |
When did maintaining As and Bs become the standard for when kids can start mutilating their bodies? |
| I'd say fine nits not permanent. Girls do it all the time well before this age. |
| yuck |
| What's the harm? |
|
It's an odd choice. It's not 1991 anymore where a guy having one piercing is cool anymore.
I worry he'll be viewed as weird, rather than cool. I'd get him a magnetic earring and let him walk around for a week with that first, to make sure it gives him the confidence he thinks it will, and that he gets the reaction he expects. |
| Would you feel differently if it was a daughter? That is what he wants and maintained his grades to get it, right? |
| I would let him get it done. |
| Why would you want to say no to him? I don't think it's a big deal if he's responsible enough to take care of it. |
| What does grades have to do with getting his ears pierced? I would say no regardless. I asked my husband if he would let our son get his ears pierced and he said what next, he wants to wear a thong and you would let him? |
My head just exploded. |
Why? |
| I like the idea of magnetic for a week to try it out to see how he likes it before really getting them pierced. |
It's not permanent. What's the harm? |
He seems responsible, it's his personal expression, and it's not permanent. Why not? |
