| We're Catholic, my Husband doesn't want it in the living room |
| We're practicing Catholics and we don't have a crucifix in our house. If we were to put up religious items I would place them in our bedroom. |
| A small crucifix as you enter each bedroom. |
| We have our cross in the entrance way plus a crucifix in each kid's room. |
| Over the doors in each bedroom. |
| Small ones in each bedroom. There's a holy water font on the wall next to front door so we can bless ourselves as we leave. Our family altar in in the dining room. It's pretty discrete and fellow Catholic tend to notice it more than non-Catholics. There are bibles and small religious statutes in each room. My DD each have a 3 inch guardian angel in unglazed cream colored pottery. I have a small statue of Mary. My fiancé has a wooden carved portrait of St. Joseph that he got when he became a stepfather. Everyone has a bedside Bible. There is a Bible in the living room. I also have a Missal with the Offices in print in our bedroom, but prefer to use Divine Office on my iPhone. There's a Catholic calendar next to DD#2's bed because she's a lector. We have a small framed portrait for each patron saint (baptismal name and/or confirmation name), one of St. JPII, and one of Pope Emeritus Benedict, and one of His Holiness Francis. On any given day, you'll see 4 rosaries in various stages of use. I also tend to forget to put back on my scapular immediately after my morning shower, so that might be on the back of the bathroom door. There is blessed salt in the kitchen. We are NOT the most devout family we know either. |
| I was raised catholic and we didn't have any religious symbols on display. I recall in one of my friend's house, there was a crucifix above their parents' bed. |
I don't even know what half these words mean. |
|
We have beautiful icons in the dining room, but most of the religious items are upstairs. Each bedroom has a cross or crucifix, as well as an icon (usually a name-saint). There are Mass cards and a rosary in a corner in the MBR as well. I grew up Catholic with a Greek Orthodox mother, so our house has a heavy orthodox influence, with many many icons, many of which came back from Greece.
I personally am not comfortable with having religious items in the public areas of the house for the most part. We are very private about our religion. |
This describes us. After all, Christ said not to make a big show of your religion ("people who stand on the street corners praying so everybody can see them"). Downstairs we have an icon of St George killing the dragon near the front door and that's it. |
| We are Eastern Orthodox and we have religious items all over the house. We have a cross and/or icon in every room, an icon of the last supper in the dining room, etc. My parents have many more. I don't consider them showy displays, just as I wouldn't consider having pictures of your children in the public areas of your house a showy display, or I wouldn't consider icons in a church a showy display. Our house is our own little church. They show who is important in the house. |
Do you teach your kids that the best way to handle someone who's teasing them is to react and show the teaser how much it bothers them? |
|
We have a small crucifix in every bedroom in theory (right now some of them are down because of long-standing reorganizing of the room...). The kids also have either a picture of an angel and/or a statute of Mary or an angel in their rooms. My husband is an atheist, so the cross in our bedroom is small and hung over my nightstand. I think they are all pretty discrete.
My mom has at least one crucifix in every room. They are very pretty and come from all over the world. She also has some rather large nicely framed prints of virgin and child in the dining room and her bedroom (copies of Raphael and Davinci paintings). They are pretty but too much for me. |
Another atheist DH with a lapsed Catholic DW. She has a couple of very pretty crucifixes that she hung above doors in bedrooms. Just a piece of art as far as I'm concerned, but they are important to her. The paintings sound beautiful. Wouldn't bother me from a religious perspective because, again, to me it's just beautiful art. In the same vein, she understands why I have a little statue of Baphomet on my desk and send checks to the Satanists legal fund to support their fights against Christians who have such difficulty understanding the meaning of the 1st Amendment |
|
OP, we have always hung ours over our front door.
My parents always had one over their bed. |
