Childcare/nanny cost in Arlington for twins?

Anonymous
There’s very little chance that you will find a daycare that can take two babies in November. You can pay to get on some lists now, but I suggest you look for a nanny.

Kids are sick frequently when they start at a daycare. You’ll need some flexibility in your job to be able to handle taking off work when one of them has a fever. This is another reason a nanny would be a better choice n

At your income, will you qualify for child care vouchers?

What does daycare charge for two infants? Do they discount if they’re twins?

Honest question.

Some daycare centers provide a 5%-10% or so sibling discount. The bigger problem is finding spaces. It's highly unlikely you will find 2 spaces at the same daycare center. Finding one spot is hard enough. Many people put the child on the waitlist at or near conception. So you're already a few months late. For quality center-based care you are looking at $25k-$30k per child for a place that includes a hot lunch and snacks.

That's a gross overestimation. 25k-30k per child per year is 2k+ per child. That's too much.

OP, you're in Arlington. You should be able to find good home daycares. They are much better for infants than corporate centers, and much more affordable.

What? No it's not. Our daycare in Rockville was $2200 a month per infant (up to 2 years old). With two kids (one infant, one 2 year old), we were paying $3,800 per month. This was 3 years ago though.

Twins are not going to join a nannyshare...twins need their own nanny.

Me again. We now have a nanny, and we paid her a bit over $60,000 total, including taxes, in 2019.

An in home daycare will run about $1200-1500 monthly for each baby. So about $2400-3000 a month.

A daycare center will run $2000-$2800 a month for each baby. So about $4000-$5600 a month.

No idea about a nanny, but it's probably worth having the flexibility of a nanny (sicks days alone will kill you with infant twins) for the first year.

OP, you're not going to want to put two (potentially premie) twins in a daycare center in November. That's flu season. You really need to figure out how to afford a nanny for the first school year.

In homes are much cheaper. Ours was $275 a week, and we left just last year. You'll have more closures though (ex: our provider took 2 full weeks off, paid).

I do agree sending twins to daycare will be hard. I had a July baby and she was home sick a LOT after starting daycare in October. With twins, that's doubled. Add in my own illness and it was a very long winter.

I pay $270/week for infant care on the DMV outside the beltway. In-home is the way to go for cost, environment, less sickness, etc. they are often closer to your house too since they are in residential neighborhoods.

Holy smokes. Just checked our old day care place, and for my two kids (infant/2yo) it would be $4315 total/month. It's only been three years, and it's gone up that much?! For an extra $8k+ a year, I get a nanny at my house. That's crazy money for daycare.
