Really!! Freshman taking Multivar? That is crazy acceleration. They should be in TJ not Chantilly or Oakton |
OP, we will welcome you with open arms at Chantilly. It's a very tight knit community and the boundaries are compact, so kids often spend alot of time with their peers. We have a fantastic administration as well. No matter the type of kid you have they WILL find a niche at the school, just due to the sheer amount of student groups. |
I agree with this. My senior has had a great experience with the majority of his teachers, classes, friends, and extracurriculars. It also helps that kids live relatively close together. |
We have loved our experience with Chantilly HS admin/teachers/students/classes/sports/clubs. It is a wonderful school. With that said, it is currently very, very, very overcrowded. My kids generally have always had 32 to 34 kids in all of their core classes -- they are squished in there like sardines. |
Can kids take backpacks to class or are they required to leave them in lockers? |
They are both good schools - the demographics are very different. The geographic areas they serve are very different. I hate living in Oak Hill and having my kid's school 20-25 minutes away, when there are two high schools that are 5-10 minutes away; however I have heard Chantilly is very crowded. Oakton has some very entitled rich kids, Chantilly student body seems a little more diverse and welcoming. |
Kids take backpacks to class. Many kids are not assigned lockers (there are not enough for all students), including my junior and senior. It has not been an issue, given that they only get textbooks for some classes which can be kept at home for the year. |
Chantilly is in the process of removing lockers to make more space currently. |
Wow, it's that bad???? |
Not Neceserially, but lockers are useless and take up extra space. There is no reason to keep them. |
As opposed to having a safe space to store things? Lockers may be somewhat less important with kids using fewer textbooks, but they only get removed because FCPS is too incompetent to prioritize expanding overcrowded schools like Chantilly. |
They will change the boundaries in a few years to send some Chantilly kids to Centreville. Problem solved. |
No. Kids get annoyed with lockers in the way when there are too many people in the halls due to FCPS’s constant mismanagement. |
There are around 1500 freshman and sophomores at chantilly. All of them are assigned a locker. I can guarantee you less than 20 of those students use theirs. |
Centreville/Chantilly may get adjusted. I really doubt Oakton will get impacted. As for the *mythical* Western HS, don’t worry about it. They kept talking about it for 10+ years but FCPS will never build one. |
