| I would like to get my family back to attending mass regularly but I haven't yet found a parish where I feel at home. We are close to St. Ann's at Tenley and have attended a few times, but I'm not really getting a warm, family feeling there. Admittedly I have only gone a handful of times, but I'm wondering if Blessed Sacrament might be better? It's not too much farther although we would drive rather than walk. I also attended Annunciation before we moved, which was fine, and we tried Holy Trinity in Georgetown once, but that's way too far for us to go regularly. Any thoughts or suggestions? |

We live in AU Park - attended St. Ann's and got the same feeling. It did not provide enough for me to go back every week.
I am with many others in the neighborhood who drive to Holy Trinity weekly. For us, the value that the parish provides is worth the drive. |
| I lived in Dupont Circle and loved St Matthews. The community and priests were great |
I am an Annunciation parishioner but sometimes attend mass at Blessed Sacrament. BS seems more family oriented. Annunciation continues to have a fairly large proportion of older parishioners and fewer young families. Annunciation is more diverse than BS, however. I'll probably get flamed for this, but whenever I attend Holy Trinity I get a self-congratulatory vibe. |
| OP here, and thanks for the responses. I felt the same about Annunciation, and I felt a bit out of place the one time we went to Holy Trinity. A bit like we weren't dressed up nicely enough! I am probably just overly self-conscious, though. I might also try Little Flower in Bethesda... |
I think you are probably just a little self conscious. I regularly went in jeans and never felt out of place. And drove from CCMD each Sunday. It was definitely worth it! I also went to daily mass sometimes at Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament and liked it okay. No idea what Sunday services are like though. |
| Thanks, PP. I will definitely try Holy Trinity again! |
| OP, you might want to try Our Lady of Victory as well. I am not a parishioner but I have attended it from time to time. It is a relatively small parish and feels homey. |
NP here. which mass is the "jeans ok" mass? on that note, which is the best one to bring pre-schoolers to? |
Thanks for the suggestion; I will look into OLV. |
We attend Holy Trinity - The parish is doing major renovations right now so things are a bit chaotic and may not feel as welcoming right now as everthing is really crowded and there is no coffee and dounuts to socialize. We go to mass at the chapel and hustle over to the school to get the children to religious ed. There is currently a mass that is on Georgetown Campus at 9AM that we attend with young children here is the map to where the chapel is http://maps.georgetown.edu/dahlgrenchapel/ |
| Have you tried Little Flower in Bethesda? I't just up Mass. Ave. and many people from NW attend regularly. |
And the Saturday Vigil is very "jeans friendly" - families in sports uniforms etc. The Sun. 9am is the boisterous Mass where kid noise is quite evident. 10:30 am is the adult choir which is like a concert choir - really talented. Noon Mass is mellow too. |
| Reviving this old thread. What is up with St. Ann's? Their school closed, the webpage is totally outdated, and the masses are often empty. Its really sad. Does anyone have information on this? Its just so strange that a Catholic church situated where it is doesn't have a stronger community. |
The area it serves has changed a lot in the past few years with an influx of student residents and businesses. The school had very few parish children in it which was a significant part of the problem. Most Catholics in that area seem to have moved to more vibrant parishes at Blessed Sacrament, Little Flower, Holy Trinity or Victory. |
