how much to pay plant waterer

I asked my MIL to water my gorgeous orchids but when I came back they were dead. I rather pay $200 to someone knowledgeable about plants. My orchids had cost me $65 each.

Who the heck is going to water someone’s plants for $30 - $50 for several weeks or even $5 a day. That’s ridiculous.

I'm surprised your plants needed watering 11 times in 3 weeks. This is a grown woman who had to think about your plants and making special trips (even within the neighborhood, she wasn't going to your house already) for almost a month. $100 is not enough. I'd say $150-165.

Unfortunately, we didn't discuss a rate before she did the work and I think she is expecting us to come up with it.

thanks in advance!

I’d be generous and pay $150-$200. If you can vacation for three weeks this is no big deal for three weeks of peace of mind - not just 11 visits.

I hired a 26 year old who is a secretary in my doctors office to come stay at our house and water outdoor plants and take care of the cat. She said she misunderstood about staying in the house. The cat is missing the plants survived it was for 7 days. Initially I was going to pay her $25 a day. But that was to be at our home the evening for the cat and she could water during the evening.

If you want to rely on this person next time, make it worth their while. It doesn’t matter that they were already in the neighborhood. She made 11 trips to your house.

You are paying her this time to make sure she returns your call/text NEXT time you need some help.
How much would it cost to replace all your dead plants?

Unless she was next door or across the street, going to your house was a pain in the *ss. She is not getting rich from these jobs and the extra cash is nice to have.

OP said they were outside.

The plants on my front porch get afternoon sun and require watering once a day, unless it's not sunny for the afternoon and then every other day is fine. Left for a weekend and 3 were burnt to a crisp and had to toss.

$25/day to stay at your house is a joke. Maybe for one visit a day, or two if she lives down the street. $50/day min for an ovenight stay for a fully grown woman. She should have cleared the amount with you in advance though.

how much should I pay a relative for taking care of two plants. The plants are in her backyard so she doesn't have to walk or drive to my house.
Also, she picks up my mail. How much should I pay her for that job as well?

Please let me know what you think is fair.
Thank you!

This. Plus she had to remember to do this 11 times.

I agree with this.

My teen does this for neighbors for $5 a day/trip.

I pay a local teen $20 a trip. He says it's too much, but he is really good and takes time to come over after his full time job every other day. My DD has to set sprinklers for lawns as well as water potted plants and gets paid $250 for 9 visits.
