Does driving a domestic car around DC signal middle class status?

Anonymous
Proud driver of a Chrysler. It allows me to get around town. It allows me to carpool with my neighbors to/from activities. The monthly payments were affordable. It is utilitarian.

I can't even fathom driving a 140k car. Don't you stress about it getting dinged? About your kid getting in with muddy cleats?

I know you are trolling but I laughed anyway.

In my world, I would wonder where you got the money, and would be obligated to report you with an indicator of espionage

Don't worry dear, we're not "in your world".

Yeah, but at the end of life, we will both be dead.

Hmmm... $650k hhi and drive a Honda Pilot.

Idiots make assumptions based on material objects.

No. I don't think anything of someone driving a domestic car. If you like it, good for you.

However, if you have a sticker that reads "THIS CAR PROUDLY MADE BY WRENCHES, NOT CHOPSTICKS" in some kind of faux-Asian font, you're clearly a racist asshole.

In terms of reliability, Japanese cars have it over American, Korean + German far and large.

I judge OP and anyone who takes a thread like this seriously.

Are you the cleaning lady?

The tone of the sentence should have given you a clue that I'm a homeowner in said neighborhood, silly-billy.

I'd classify a Pilot as an SUV, not a car, but...

How many of your HHI peers drive a Ford Taurus, a Honda Accord, etc.? I'm sure a few here or there, but the vast majority drive luxury brands, particularly European brands. Probably most drive some kind of SUV.

what about your kid's friends with snacks? remember the post about the neighborhood ignoring the no snack rule and leaving his uneaten food on the floor of the vehicle? I would be too worried about all that could go wrong with a pricey vehicle.

The Suburban/Tahoe/pickup trucks I can understand (not that you see a tom of pickup trucks in DC) but I can never for the life of me understand people who waste their money on cars like Malibu’s and Tauruses and Escapes. Pieces of junk! You’re much better off with an accord or Camry or CRV.

Had an Odyssey for years and HATED it! Bought a Chrysler Pacifica last year. There are lots of reasons to choose a particular car... worrying about what the neighbors think? Not on my list

What about Prius Drivers? Are they middle class?
