Ear, nose, bellybutton, all those places would be fine in my book.

I draw the line at lip/tongue piercing, as that's damaging to the teeth.

Forgot to add: I would not allow any nipple piercings for a daughter, either, since I've heard that, if there are problems, they might interfere with breastfeeding in adult life.

Of course, once she's a legal adult, all the bets will be off.

Anonymous wrote:OP here, sorry for the late response. I did allow DD to have her third set pierced. I told her I would think on it, then we were in the mall last week. as soon as she saw Claire's she told me "I just want to express myself and I have the money" l caved. She went with a tiny cubic zirconia. After I saw how nice it looked I decided to have a second set put in my ears! I had them pierced in my college days but they had closed up. It was a fun mother-daughter date. (And I made it clear, no more piercings before 18)

Good for you! You sound like a reasonable person.
OP here. Thanks for the positive comment. She loves her new earrings as do I. Now 16 year old DS wants an earring.. that's a tough one.

wait, what? double standard time.

I don't think you can allow piercings for your daughter and not your son. As women are slowly being allowed to do things that previously only men could do, it's only fair that men can do what previously only women could do.

The bolded, times a billion. And then some more.

NP. This will likely not be the last time she asks for piercings, even though you said no more until 18. You caved on this one, in her mind, you will most likely cave on the next request. My DD was the same as your DD, although I did make her wait until 16 to get the 3rd hole(she said that would be the last request), but then she also asked for a nose piercing. I told her No (she could get it when she leaves home), but the requests keep coming. The latest requests were for the upper ear pierced. She is now 16 1/2 and I caved and let her do it. I already know she is going to bug me for the nose piercing until she leaves for college next year. Good luck sticking to no new piercings until 18.

Ear piercings are fine with me, no matter how many. Anything beyond the ears has to wait until 18. However: I will not pay for piercings unless they are birthday wishes. And then it's one piercing at a time (that's one pair of earrings per birthday). I will not ever pay for any piercings that aren't in the ears.

PP here: forgot to add that piercings are to be done properly at a tattoo parlor. I will never ever have a child of mine get a piercing at a mall or anywhere else where people clearly don't know how to do it properly. Of course that also means it's more expensive which is why either my kids have to pay themselves or they only get one pair of earrings a year paid for by me.

OP here. It is my husband who has a big problem with DS piercing his ear. We are discussing it and I will let you know what we decide, if you like.

definitely do it. it’s an ear piercing, not a tattoo.

I think that is too young. Even two for a 12 year old. I wouldn't allow 3. Just a different perspective.

OP here. We allowed DS to get the ear piercing.

OP here, I did let her get i done. Did you see my comment?

New poster here. She needs to find better ways of expressing herself. Take her to a psychologist.

You've got to be kidding....

Good for you. It's just a piercing and I don't know why people are making such a fuss over it.

People here fuss over eyeliner, candles, and putting cream in coffee. Skinny jeans are still "edgy" to many on this board.

Sure - face tattoos, genital piercing, etc. Mom of the year here.
