white house easter egg roll

We had so much fun today! Seriously exceeded my expectations, and my kids did NOT want to leave.

My thoughts: The crowds were well-managed—definitely lots of lines, but they keep them moving nearly the whole time. We went during the last session and the weather was beautiful, so it was nice just to stroll on the grounds. I was surprised by the food tent which actually had some substantial food (not just candy— it had quiches and custards and muffins). Nice bathrooms. Lots of free bottles of water everywhere. Fun activities for little kids, though I imagine a kid over 7 might be over a lot of it. Characters walking around everywhere to surprise kids. (Baby Shark, Sponge Bob, and Winnie the Pooh had entourages of children following them around.) Cute bags and things to take home. My kids loved doing the egg dying, seeing the animatronic dinosaurs, and running around the lawn. The egg roll itself is very short, like 1 min long, but it does keep the line moving.

Overall, I expected chaos and meltdowns but it was a really nice event!

Snack area was great - delicious food; truly didn’t expect something as good at such a mass event. Imagine if it was always possible to get such snacks while visiting entertainment parks, zoos. Egg sandwiches, tartes, meringuées, quinoa chocolate dessert. Music was too loud for my taste. It was crowded but didn’t feel overwhelming. Highly recommend!

I don’t recall snacks. Maybe this is a new edition. What kind of snacks?

They had a lot of food today. Two different snack areas with finger foods— little sandwiches, muffins, frittatas, custards (egg-heavy, being on theme). And a cute picnic area to sit and look at the monument! And then people giving candy away as we left.

I thought it was really well thought out to have running/kicking/gross motor skills right after the lines, then heavy snacks before entering, then the egg roll and festivities. Also smart to save the candy until people were on their way out. Very clever!

Agreed. It was a well-planned event. Kudos to the organizers.

The food was excellent this year. Last year it was a prepackaged snack (lots of plastic/trash with individual packaging). This year the food was substantial, really good, and no plastic packaging. I agree the planners and volunteers did a really great job and it was festive and fun despite the weather.

Clearly you don’t have any kids. There isn’t school on Easter Monday (unless maybe the kids attend a Jewish or other religious non Christian school).

What are you talking about? All public schools in DC had school on Monday.

We went as well, but it was one of those days that our kids just weren't feeling being outside (honestly, I wasn't either). I think we were all fairly miserable but it wasn't the event's fault even though the mud didn't help. The worst part was that once we were leaving, some parents lost their kids and they had to shut down the gates so were just stuck on the White House grounds. I guess there's worst places to be stuck though lol

PP was just making sh** up, as usual.

...anyone going this year? I am, and was wondering what to wear to be comfortable but not under dressed...

Just wear your MAGA hat and you'll fit right in.

PP, go away and do not think you could spoil the fun for others. MAGA has nothing to do with it.

Oh no, someone lost their kids? I understand that they found them eventually, but could you give any tips on how to not lose your kid in a crowd? A bracelet, maybe?

This thread is from last year.

White House Easter Egg Hunt brought to you by Tesla and Monsanto.

Take your kid and make sure to don your MAGA hat so you fit in.

Why does it matter that this thread is from last year? Some threads get pulled in from 10 yrs ago and everyone is fine with that. Losing kid in a crowd in a museum has been my nightmare for years. PP, you mix kids' traditional event that has almost 150 yrs of history, with politics? so, you think all kids should just not go, or what? You are being really tolerant here.
