Earthquake

We were woken up by it over here near Hyattsville, but also thought it was just a truck going by.

It woke me up in Greenbelt. I wasn't exactly sure what it was at first since it was my first earthquake experience.

Pretty cool - I've never felt an earthquake before. I had gone downstairs to sleep on the couch in the middle of the night because it gets hot in our 2 story colonial, and it woke me up. I figured it was an earthquake. It was so surreal, I thought I might have dreamt it. I went upstairs to see if my husband had heard it, and he had. We also confirmed it was an earthquake via Facebook - before the news had anything which I thought was cool.

I'm a neurotic mom and found it very strange that my very light sleeping toddler did not wake up. For a second before we confirmed it was an earthquake I blurted out to my husband: "do you think it was an alien abduction and they took (DC)?"

I think I was only half kidding. I don't even believe in alien abductions. But it was weird. Very cool though.

Having experienced 2 major earthquakes, I hate 'em - you never know where you'll be when they happen and how big and long they will last. I used to work near an airfield where there are lots of quakes and when some of the large planes unexpectedly flew low, it felt like the start of one as the buildings would start making that earthquake creaking noise and shake.

We're in Derwood...it woke us up. We were half-asleep and disoriented and figured it was a large plane flying close to our house. The whole house was vibrating and it was very loud...lasted about 7 seconds or so. I didn't realize it was an earthquake until my friend e-mailed me this morning asking me about it. Wow!!

Me - sleep deprived mother of a 2 week old girl and DD woke up with the phone ringing at 11am. It was DH checking on us... he's in CA working since last week...
Shame on me... baby's noise won't let me sleep but I can sleep through a real earthquake! LOL

I thought it was a low flying aircraft (live in AU Park), but it only lasted about 5 seconds. Did not even occur to me that it was an earthquake until I heard it on the news.

I am a light sleeper - everything wakes me. DH sleeps (and snores) through everything. He woke up and felt it, I didn't. Guess those tylenol pms really do work geat.

I'm on Capitol Hill and my first thought was that there was an explosion at one of the federal buildings but then I didn't hear any sirens, so I went back to sleep.

I'm in Falls Church and it woke me and DH up. I thought maybe some fighter jet was flying too low overhead or something else catastrophic. Since I had been sleeping and in the midst of a dream, my mixed up brain couldn't rule out something paranormal: alien invasion? Maybe.

I live in Georgetown and I heard it...it sounded like a mack truck and it seemed as though someone was hitting our house.

We live in Rockville, I though the loud noise was a big truck or a jet ! after a few seconds the shaking made me realized it was a minor quake.
