That would be the World Scholars program. https://www.udel.edu/apply/undergraduate-admissions/enrichment-opportunities/world-scholars/

Students study abroad the first semester and again junior year. While on campus they have an international-focused living learning community and get a "globally focused minor."

Offering students who would otherwise be waitlisted a first semester abroad is getting more common at other schools but this is not the same thing and predates that trend. You have to apply for World Scholars.

As a UD grad that is the downward kt mobile disappointment. At one point not too many years back Delaware was in the 70s in US News rankings in same neighborhood as VT, UMD, Rutgers. It is still #89 in the last release. But you can see the position declining and on this board it often generally grouped at the level of the schools you mention which are around #150 in US News. College rankings are not the be all end all but it is still mildly disappointing to an old alum.

This is still the case. It's ranked #2 in the US for chemical engineering after only MIT.

My friend lives in DE and hires a lot of summer workers. She has complained that the kids come back with drinking and drug problems.

My brother in law and cousin started at UDel and left after their first year. Didn’t enjoy it at all. This was four years ago.

About 65%; 8% Hispanic; 6% Black; 10% International. Not diverse enough?

65 percent is not that white.

Both of my nephews graduated from Del several years ago. One went to work for Amazon in Seattle w/big bonus and salary, now has a very flexible job with good money at a major bank. The other went to a small innovative tech co in midwest. Now works for a healthcare info company and is remote, so can work from anywhere. Both jobs paid well. They were CS and Chem majors, I think.

Is there an acceptable percentage of white? When is it too much? How about East Asian? South Asian? When are there too many of an ethnic or racial group or are we just trying to limit white kids? I read recently (I think it was in Tablet) that Penn went from 30% Jewish to 15% Jewish. It is 41% white so is 26% non-Jewish white acceptable? Is 15% Jewish too much, too little or just right?

Met a nurse recently who graduated from Univ of Delaware. She chose it due to their direct admit to nursing program. Working at a large DMV area hospital now.

My friend’s daughter left after first semester due to the amount of partying going on every night. But I heard it’s a good school. She’s an introvert and is in a college suited to her now.
