Mercedes GLE or Beamer X5?

I am the only person in my group of friends who has a BMW. The rest have Mercedes. They are always complaining about anything and everything. I never have a problem at all and have valet service if my car needs anything. They come to me, bring me another BMW and then bring my car back to me all with no charge.

When Jackie Kennedy was asked why she drove a BMW as opposed to a Mercedes, she said that Mercedes were for old people. God love her. I agree with her.

Curious about what DCUM think about owning Beamer vs MB? Is it really such a widespread animosity or am I taking few opinions as a general opinion that has no reflection in reality.

I'm a fan of both brands, and for most of the 90s and 2000s, I had placed BMW solidly above Mercedes. I owned multiple BMWs and they remain some of the most enjoyable cars I've ever driven, and would not hesitate to buy them again if BMW made similar caliber of cars in comparison to the competition. But IMO, BMW is going through what I regard also happened to Honda - they have lost their way and no longer knows what they are about, and this shows in their product line-up. The new X5 is impressive only as an upgrade to the old stale X5, but I still think Mercedes has their stuff together better than BMW and the GLE is a superior choice.

I recommend of course that you drive both and pick the one that you like the best.

Meh, she had to say something. Real reason was most likely to "blend in" with poor people on the road. Nobody who was anybody back in the day would drive such a car, so if you wanted to pass unnoticed that is what you would do. If anyone would see her in BMW would think, is this... neah.. it can not be. She would not drive such a car. However if she would drive in black shinny Mercedes then the odds of her being her would skyrocket.
So basically she was "dressing down" so to speak.

At this point X5 seems to be somewhat behind. The 2020 GLE that just came out beats the current 2019 X5 and seems it will be doing so for another year, unless BMW will come up with some major upgrades, which as we all know BMW is not know for.

The fully digital dashboard on GLE is mesmerizing. Gigantic LCD display took over everything including the speedometer that you can customize to your daily flavor. It is also completely ready for your voice commands so you don't have to touch anything anymore, including temperature setting. You can just tell the car make temp higher or lower, play radio, change stations, input GPS destination and more. All by your voice while you keep your eyes on the road. Finally.

Mercedes has really cheaped out on build quality, as has BMW to a lesser extent. I'd only buy if you know you will only hold the car for five years or less

I always lol when I see some pudgy middle-aged guy in a BMW. Your car makes you look 10 years younger!

X5 seems to have way more kick then GLE. Also under further inspection it looks much cooler on the outside then GLE, front and back.
What is with that gigantic logo on Mercedes? BMW keeps their little circle intact. MB though makes it bigger and bigger and bigger. Is it about the ego? I so much more prefer discrete charm of BMW logo that does not need to scream at me. Just as you don't see Land Rovers going bananas with their logo, it is what it always was. Best yet, coolest are the guys who buy black Land Rover with the black letters so when it passes by you have really make an effort to figure out it is really Land Rover. It could be anything. But it is LR. It is just those guys do not need to scream to the whole world "Look! I am driving Land Rover" no they just drive. Not to show off. Just glide unnoticed.
