It should be laid out in the teacher's syllabus how they will calculate the final grade.

On a slightly related note, as a parent of high school children, I find it annoying that the GPA is not reported on the kids' report cards each quarter. When I was in high school, every interim and every report card had a GPA for that marking period on it as well as a cumulative GPA average. We always knew where we stood so no surprises when college application time came around. I wish they did that in FCPS.

You can see the gpa on Naviance. They won't count a year long course until it has been completed and a final grade has been issued. Plus, some teachers (mainly history) grade on the trend- so it may not be using the 4.0 scale or a straight % average. Plus a few curve, although they curve on the quarter.

What is Naviance?

Ok. Thanks. We have used that to search colleges. Didn't know it is called Naviance.

The on line GAP is not weighted. Also, when you apply to college, some colleges will replace the GAP, coming up with a GAP for just core classes plus languages. They can consider many different calculations.

We logged in and went to "Family Connection", but don't see the GPA listed. Is it under one of the tabs?

It is in SIS, under grade history. It is unweighted.

Isn't that the end of last year's GPA?

Someone earlier said the current GPA is in Naviance, or Family Connection.

What grades are listed on the transcript sent to colleges -- quarter grades? Semester grades? Final grades?

Final grades for 9th-11th and first semester grades in 12th and then final grades at the end of the year.

If a middle schooler is taking high school courses, should there be a gpa in naviance?

I don't think it gets loaded until they are actually in HS. I know with both my children, they did not access Naviance until sophomore year - after their freshman (and MS) grades were loaded.

Good morning!
A Student currently enrolled in AP COMP Science A elective exam in 11 th grade. Currently the enrolled student appears to be getting consistently f in last 2 quarters. Can any one suggest what are the best options at this time ?? Can the student opt out now to different elective ?? If the student drop now from the enrolled elective does it impact GPA ??

Thanks for guidance and help !!

You need to contact the student's counselor ASAP. Every school has different procedures. You may be stuck though--it is really late in the year for class changes.
