Indiana or Ohio State for Business School?

I spent a week at a conference at Indiana Bloomington this summer. Impressed with the campus - it compared favorably to the many state flagships I have visited. School has a great reputation at my Fortune 500 company. They pay for their engineers to get a special online Kelley MBA just for our company.

I do not have direct experience with Ohio State academics but am sure it gets the job done. My family member enjoyed living in the Columbus suburbs for 15 years, so no negativity about the location. She was also U of M and worked at a job with mostly Ohio State grads.

Now....who has some more relevant info about the business programs? People have life decisions to make....

I'm the PP who posted O-H, and a proud Buckeye. Someone else came along and posted N-O. Probably a fan or alum of the school up north.

Ok, so you could have done someone a favor and provided some information to make them want to go to your school and instead you missed your chance and set yourself up for predictable trolling. Now tell us what you liked about going to Ohio State...

Consider that the student may not get into the Business Major, later on, at either school. Then what? Does that change anything? Have you looked at other majors and what it takes to get into those?

We visited both this past weekend. Friday was Buckeye Bound day and DD was not impressed. It is possible that the weather negatively impacted her opinion, but either way, she left saying that there was no way she wanted to spend 4 years there. On Saturday she went to Indiana and did a guided tour and visited a dorm (couldn't make the Red Carpet day as it was also on Friday). She loved it. She loved the campus, and the overall vibe of the school.

After this, there was no question. Has your child visited both? They have a very different feel while on campus.

This doesn't surprise me. From my suburban Chicago high school, equal numbers went to Purdue, Univ of Illinois, and IU. IU consistently scored high on campus visits. One of my best friends from high school went to IU, and she now has freshman twins at IU. They were admitted at other Big 10 schools,, including OSU, but the visit clinched their decision. There are good reasons to attend OSU so academic interest counts, though, no matter the aesthetics.

We had the opposite outcome! We did the Buckeye Bound day on Friday as well and OSU moved up the rankings for DS after the visit. We loved Columbus. Have not visited IU, nor planning to, given how far away it is and the difficulty getting in and out and DS agrees with that. We met several families on Friday in a similar situation - got into both, visited both, but selected OSU for a variety of reasons: city vs. rural, easy to get to, quick access to an airport, etc.

For DS it likely will boil down to OSU Business vs. Tech (non-business major).

I’m the PP and I’m not surprised! The campuses have such different vibes that I think if OP’s child visits both there will be a clear winner and a clear loser. I don’t think any kids would find them equally appealing. Neither is better or worse- just appeal to different kids.

My DD described Indiana as feeling like summer camp- her favorite place in the world.

And yes, academics matter but business is great in both schools so that shouldn’t be the deciding factor.
