Lots of great Arabic names for girls though! I like Zahra, Leila, Noura, Farah - many others too.

it means governess in Urdu.. well really.. nursemaid.. as well so im thinking it means something similar in arabic. its important that the name have a lovely meaning as well as sound. Nora is a good suggestion.

I currently work in a schol with a very multi ethnic Arab population. Many names have mulitple different spellings as the English spelling is often an interpretation of the Arabic name. The most popular girls names are

Aisha or Ayisha
Alia or Aaliyah
Fatima
Khadija
Noor or Noora
Zehra / Zohra / Zara / Zora
Mariam or Maryam
Hiba / Heba
Faiza
Eman or Eyman

Oddly there are no Layla or Aya's at the school.

Other Arab names that are easy to westernize are variations of Aisha, Alia, Sara, Nora, Farah, Dania, Zara, Nadia, Hanna, Yasmine

OP here. These names scream “Arab” to me and these are the exact types of names I’m hoping to avoid.
