Does data exist on SAT scores, and AP achievements for Jackson Reed (Wilson) or any DCPS high school

Whatever, 40% AP Scholar is just OK.

School SAT AP

Walls 1317 89% scored at least a 3 on ONE AP exam
Banneker 1088 48% scored at least a 3 on ONE AP exam
JR 1050 63% scored at least a 3 on ONE AP exam

As far as charters, BASIS DC is by far the top:

School SAT AP

BASIS DC 1368 40% were AP Scholars, which means they scored at least a 3 on at least THREE AP exams; kids who scored at least a 3 on ONE AP exam was probably in the mid 90s.

Tangentially, as someone who knows a thing or two about statistics, it always annoys me the way DCPS releases non-statistics statistics.

"XX% scored at least a 3 on one exam" really tells you nothing about achievement. Without knowing how many exams they are taking, how many kids are taking exams, how many kids are taking AP courses and how many they are taking it's really not possible to compare schools.

"OK, BASIS has the best academic results in DC but who cares. I hear that they have a very advanced course load and the kids work really hard. So, they should not just do better than other DC schools, even selective schools such as Walls, but way, way, way better. Every kid there should be top 1% in the country. They aren't. Thus, the school must be totally overrated. Plus, I went to a crummy high school in some small town in the midwest 20 years ago, didn't work hard, and did great. If every kid at BASIS doesn't do better than I did, BASIS must be a terrible school. No one should send their kid there."

Pretty much. Excellent summary of their position.

Curious as to why all DC schools threads must morph into an exhaustive discussion of BASIS? Why is that?

I've been on DCUM 19 years (really) and admit I don't understand this BASIS fixation. It used to apply to Yu Ying too (all threads must eventually focus on YY, even if we were originally talking about Janney).

But lately it's just BASIS. Are you the same 3 posters who have your phones set to alert you when the word "basis" is mentioned on DCUM?

Sometimes it is BASIS boosters and haters desperate to bring up BASIS. More often than that I think it is that conversations about the best test scores or academics involve BASIS because, well, they are in many ways the standard.

Thank you for posting the links. They were helpful. They are not as detailed as MCPS, which lets you see at the HS level. Interestingly White kids do as well in DCPS as white kids in the high performing MCPS schools. It's less even with other demographics. As is well understood, this has to do with SES background, and I suspect, the informal networks and information sharing.

It’s absolutely obnoxious. I have no issue with people wanting to discuss BASIS but please stop hikacking threads!!!

Super weird take for two reasons:

1. No one stops anyone from posting about other topics. If there was a critical mass of interest and response to other related matters and posts the BASIS stuff would b drowned out. But it isn't because there isn't.
2. You posted a BASIS related response to ask people to stop hijacking threads with BASIS related posts.

+100. This. No dog in this fight, hardly an obsessive "hater." This result cuts BASIS down to size for me.

Hmmm....JR has had average SAT score of 1050. I wonder what percentage of the senior class is AP Scholar? 5%?

It is about 17%, so higher than the national average but a lot lower than BASIS DC.

Ouch. BASIS parents will probably lose sleep with that number having "cut BASIS down to size". 40% for an open enrollment school seems pretty impressive to me. What % would impress you?

Open enrollment but no filling empty seats after fifth grade?

At least two-thirds.
