Anyone got a peony bloom yet?

I have blooms on my south facing CCMD peonies. And I saw an ant on them! Are they bad for the blooms?
Are peonies perennial and do I have to take them inside in the winter?

One of my peony blooms has bud blast? How to cure? The others are nice and plump and colorful. This one is small, black, and shriveled.

3rd year peonies, lots of buds of various sizes, but no blooms.

1st year they had 2 blooms. 2nd year, 5-6 blooms. This year looks like it could be 20ish?

I have this problem too! Last year mine started blooming in DC on May 10. I had 25-30 blooms. This year I have 7 buds and everything else is tiny and shriveled. Anyone know what is happening?

If its been a long time since you divided your peonies, a bust year for flowers can be a boom time to divide in the fall. The roots will be extra strong bc they didn't make flowers

Another CCMD person, and mine have smallish-medium sized buds now. Just a couple more days now, I think.

The ants love them. May or may not do anything for the flowering, but I don't think they hurt them.

Leave peonies alone - no digging out to overwinter. I dug all mine up and replanted a few years back because the bed needed thinning, and they were still happy the next year. I think it's hard to mess them up.

Cut off the lateral buds for bigger flowers. You are also supposed to cut off the first bud after you plant the bare root. It’s hard after all that waiting but I did it in the first year and it was worth it. The second year I had tons of flowers.

My early ones are budding, the late ones are just emerging.

Ours have not budded yet. I didn’t even know they were there until last month. (Moved in late summer.) can’t wait to see which color they are.
