I have a few buds getting bigger by the day and I'm so excited! Anyone have any blooms yet?

Medium size buds right now.

I have some buds. No blooms yet. Seems like everything has been slower to grow this year due to the cold, but maybe I am misremembering past years.

I planted peony from bare root in the fall and it's coming up. No buds yet. Will they get bushier next year though and more robust every year? or should i have planted more bare roots.

A neighbor had some early blooms this year! I wonder if she covered the bushes?

I also have medium buds today.

I planted bare root peonies (several kinds) three years ago, and this is the first year they are all coming up robust and full of buds. I thought they were duds, but I guess it takes a few years for them to really get going.

In my neighborhood, houses that cut the peonies back have buds or not even buds. There are a couple houses that don't cut back and have woody plants, and they're in full bloom.

I’m in Loudoun and have buds, but no blooms! My plants in full sun are closer to blooming— I’m guessing maybe in 5 days. I’m hoping I’ll have a few for teacher appreciation week next week since my kids are supposed to bring in single flowers!

That’s because theirs are either tree peonies, or a hybrid between tree peonies and herbaceous peonies (the kind that die back each year). Just not cutting back your peonies won’t turn them into tree (woody) peonies, I’m afraid. They are different plants. The tree peonies and herbaceous kinds bloom earlier.

Yep. Herbaceous peonies are supposed to die back to the ground. Tree peonies in my neighborhood are in full bloom, whereas herbaceous peonies are just getting started.

No blooms yet in Rockville but lots of buds. Hoping we get past the spell of cold nights before blooming starts.

Lots of buds but no blooms yet in Fairfax!

To PP who planted last year - I planted 12 bare root plants 3 years ago and this is the first year I will get more than 1 flower. Be patient and fertilize!

We have buds but not blooms yet here in NE DC. The ants are on the buds, so I expect they will bloom soon!
