I wish that were true, but there's definitely at least one McLean kid in the 8th grade.

I wouldn't be such an asshole about it given that FCCPS still has a school located outside the FCC limits.

+1. Please do your own research and see if you think it’s worth it. These are not the same schools they were 10 years ago.

For the out of boundary fee, why not just pay for private school?

Because the DC-area privates are extremely expensive. 22K seems a comparative bargain.

I’m not OP but I’m looking at some of the Catholic schools in the area. We are not Catholic and the tuition is not as expensive as the other privates.

To OP- what are you looking for in a school? What does FCCPS have that your current school or the private schools do not and is that worth 22k to you?

If you want your kiddo be in IB, have them transfer to a FCPS IB HS.

For what it’s worth we specifically moved to FCC because of the schools’ reputations and ended up being sorely disappointed and doing Catholic anyway.

Anyone know how FCC compares to APS (Yorktown/WL)?

I get your anger. Mt Daniel's location is unfortunate. The 8th grader referenced as a tuition kid isn't a close neighbor. They're north of 123, set for HS at Langley. I have no idea how this happened. As a FCCPS mom of an 8th grader who has been in over-crowded schools their entire life, I don't get why this child is allowed to join the biggest class in the district. I wouldn't pipe up at all if it were a child in Fairfax but on North Oak, Greenwich, Walnut, Woodland, Highland, etc.

It's way better than Falls Church HS.

That said, OP the competition is fierce in FCCPS. Your child may find that they aren't where they need to be. Case in point a friend whose child was failing in FCCPS moved and was immediately labeled gifted in FCPS.

That's weird my son is at MEH and none of his classes are crowded. In fact, the entire time in FCCPS his classes have average 10 to 15 less students than the average FCPS classroom.

What ways are you comparing them?

When was that? FCC is trending the same way as other public schools now. Now there is a lot of grade inflation and many retakes, like all public schools in NOVA. They changed the entire grading system. It’s very different when you compare your kids who went through years ago to what they are experiencing now. The academic rigor is not the same and grades are higher.

Hey! Some of the PG folks commit residency fraud in DC.

FCCPS is better than Falls Church HS but placing to Marshall may be better for you and free. Meridian is good if your kid wants to do IB, but if not, it’s tough to get rigor and choice because there are very few AP classes. Larger schools like Marshall (and W-L) offer both paths. I wish we had realized this when we moved to FCC when our kids were in preschool.
