| My daughter is choosing between Madeira and Stone Ridge for 9th. She is on the introverted side and very focused on theatre and dance (musical theatre, in particular). While she is sporty and naturally athletic, she does not have a lot of experience with sports in any serious way. She loves the all girls environment and sense of community at both schools. Anyone have experience with both schools or has faced a similar decision? |
| We considered both and opted for Visi but for a quiet girl into theatre and dance, I would choose Madeira. Stone Ridge can have a lot of mean girl, cliquishness (not ALL of the girls but some) but I have never ever heard this about Madeira. |
| Is this even a choice? Madeira. |
| Have a daughter at Madeira. We couldn't be happier with her choice. |
| Just look at recent comments on Madeira over the last year or so. Seems like a special place. |
| Madeira really glad a good track record of bringing girls out of their shells. |
| I know a family with children at both SR and Madeira. They send their “theater kid” to Madeira. She is quite talented, acting in community theater productions since she was young. At Madeira, you must take a fall, winter, and spring activity. If you are talented enough to make the select dance team (you need to try out) you can take dance for all three blocks. Meaning you are dancing for at least an hour every day for the whole year. There are less intense options, where you can dance for one D block or take an elective dance class. Theater is offered for every D block and acting classes are also offered as an elective. I’m not sure there is a better theater program in the area. |

The Madeira theater productions are phenomenal.
They have a brand new STEAM building as well. Amazing facilities and 375 acres on the Potomac. It is a special place. |
+1 |
D block offering also include sports (most of which are officially or effectively no cut), physical training/yoga/pilates and, I think, things like newspaper. Of course, there's also the horses. They take great efforts to make sure girls can pursue their interests in a supportive setting, but team by team in athletics, SR is stronger in most cases (by a lot in many cases). The theatre and arts programs are terrific. They also have strong offerings in art as an academic subject. |
| I would choose Madeira where she would start with all new girls in 9th. I think for an introvert it would be much easier to make friends. |
| Madeira. No contest. |
Agree! |
| No experience with Stone Ridge but delighted with Madeira. The school helped get our deeply introverted kid get out of her shell. She is not a social butterfly today by any means but the school (and the theater program) helped. Visit and figure out for yourself. Good luck! |

Are people on this thread aware of the new theater and lunch facility at Stone Ridge?
Stone Ridge is stronger academically. All that said, I might pick Madeira for an introvert. Where do you live? |
