UNC Chapel Hill and Duke

Would a high stats kid from NOVA be interested in both? Or just Duke?

Depends on the major. I think there are some kids interested in both. My kid was interested in neither.

Okay, so what majors? Sadly I don't know much about either except rankings.

Unc is irrelevant outside of journalism

It doesn’t place well for the best jobs up north

There is a huge difference in where dukies get placed up north and unc

Both are fairly difficult to get into especially if not accepted ED by Duke.

What a ridiculous take.

My DC applied to and was accepted at both. He liked Duke more, perhaps in part because I hate Duke.

Kind of a personal question don't you think???????????????

Assuming full pay and ignoring UVA if you are in state, UNC is the highest ranked school at the lowest price in the Eastern U.S.

To a minor extent, major matters in this case.

Assuming that high stats means top 5% class rank and above 1560 SAT or 35/36 ACT, a high stats NOVA kid should apply to all Ivy League schools of interest to him/her, as well as to Duke, Stanford, MIT, Chicago, Northwestern and to any other Top 15 National University of interest and to any Top 10 LAC of interest.

What an earth is this take.

As an UNC alum, i'll add that a HUGE number of my fellow alums ended up in med school or law school. another large portion went on to get PhDs. another large portion in public health. So it's a good school for someone with any of those interests.

I'm having trouble interpreting what "the best jobs up north" but I'm assuming capitalistic firms that extract money and hand them to young people from wealthy families. So many Duke has the upper hand in that category of job.

The biggest difference between these schools is that Duke has many kids from wealthy families, and UNC has many middle class students. Both have large numbers of smart people.

Probably. I do know UNC places a lot of grads at capital one, Deloitte, chase, & Amazon. In 2019, for Economics specifically, they sent at least 5 each to Bain, McKinsey, & Goldman Sachs.

the best students definitely have great options. But think that’s true for most schools

The fact anyone is charging to teach journalism these days is a crime.

Low chance for both.

Mine was only interested in Duke - they liked the campus better. Didn't get in.
