This makes sense in a way. UNC engineering is not stellar nor is computer science, two fields where you can enter the workforce after graduation with a decent salary. It is a good school but in other areas.

So UNC is severely overated.
Comparing it to Duke is a joke.

They are vastly different cultures but they’re close enough (8 miles) that you can tour both in one day. I would take your child down to Chapel Hill and Durham and tour both. The only way to know which one is to go.

I went to one of those schools and I knew immediately upon touring which one was the better fit. I had thought I was interested in both and my parents and others had warned me that they were very different and I had to see for myself.

Agree. Good advice from your parents.

Surprisingly my DC visited them both in one weekend and really liked both schools! We thought they were both friendly and pretty campuses.

I worked in the NBA league office for a few years and it’s crazy how many more duke alums are all across various functions of the NBA vs unc alums (I’m talking about non-players though I’m sure there are more duke players currently than unc players in the league)

It was interesting to note because UNC’s biggest export is basketball and it has a lot larger alum base but duke is way more represented throughout the nba

MJ’s view on this (this was a fantastic documentary BTW and it’s a shame you can’t stream it anymore. Was very fun and balanced, didn’t seem to pick a side, but really got into the culture of both schools).
