Just went to CVS in NW DC to pick up my prescription. They will not allow you to pick up your prescription till you download their app, fill out all the required info and prepaid. There were about 7-8 people pecking at their phones, 4 people waiting in line because they could not login and more people showing up who had to be told to download the app.
The hack- say you are picking up for someone else. I hear the CVS app is very invasive- tracking your movements through the store and other things. I am done with CVS and their mile long receipt. |
CVS is the worst! |
Thank you for the PSA. Totally agree they already sucked and this is ridiculous.
But your last line made me laugh! So true! |
Not everywhere. Just picked up one today. No app needed. I do have it but not for the kid I was picking up for. |
I bet it is some way of getting around HIPAA. This will allow CVS to use the information from the app to market to you and/or sell your name with likely medical conditions to third parties.
Just what I need more spammers on my phone. |
Not at my CVS - non DMV. They will however shut the literal pharmacy gate on your face as soon as 1pm hits even if you've been waiting in the pharmacy pick up line inside the store. they do not GAFFFFFF. |
I love it. They can’t ever find me in their system. Now I just flash my screen, they scan it, and I’m outta there. |
I picked up a prescription at "my" CVS in Rockville today and didn't need to do this. |
Not a chance on god's green earth I will download anything from CVS on the phone. Not a chance. They can't hold your Rx for hostage either, don't fall for it.

I picked up a prescription last week and they didn't require me to do that.
But I agree that CVS is terrible. The pharmacists and pharmacy techs are really unhelpful and some are just flat out unintelligent. I was there recently and overheard one of the techs having a loud conversation on a speaker phone about another customer's prescription--said the customer's name, date of birth, the medication they were getting. There were about 4 of us standing in line at the time. Unbelievable. |

My CVS requires me to say this when I go up to the counter. |
I've used the CVS app for years and have never, ever found it invasive in any way. I use it for coupons and to check to see if my prescriptions are ready. And I get my receipts emailed to me so no more long printouts. I picked up a prescription in NWDC a couple of weeks ago and didn't have to anything with the app when I arrived. I'd say maybe the only slightly annoying thing are the sale emails are one or two a day...but I just delete and move on. |
PP here, and while I do say my name and borth date (no year), I've never had to say what prescription I'm picking up at all. Never. |
There's a difference between quietly providing your information when you get to the counter and the pharmacist saying the info into a phone loud enough for the entire pharmacy area to hear when the customer wasn't even present. I was third in line, so at least 20 feet away from the counter, and I could hear everything. There is no justifiable reason for disclosing a customer's private health information like that. |
