I would like to look at some Miele dishwashers in person and possibly order.
Any appliance vendors you do or do not recommend? I guess it doesn't matter where I *look*, but where I order. My Kitchenaid dishwasher is barely two years old and we are looking at replacing - it has had one warranty recall (related to heating the water, I think), a door spring broke, and now it needs a replacement of the pump that moves the water into the spray arms, meaning it is not currently functional. It could be repaired, but parts and labor brings it close to $600. I know most of the time people are happy with their Kitchenaid dishwashers, but I'm thinking of looking at Miele. We already went through a GE Profile that lasted about 10 years before the KA - didn't hold up that great, but did work. I feel like the DC water is so hard on things! I did look at Bosch, but wasn't crazy about their interior layout. Thanks for any advice! |

Lowe’s! They just started carrying Miele, which is so convenient!
Also, 100% agree with your choice. I on my third Miele and they are amazing. First lasted almost 20 years, and I replaced it with another. Then we moved into a house with a Bosch and I hated it. It broke down with an expensive motor problem within 5 years of being new, so I replaced with it a Miele. My parents have a high level Kitchenaid and it’s fine. But it’s super loud and not gentle on dishes. |

I bought 3 years ago via M&M appliance in DC. My experience with the unit itself has been miserable - broke twice during the pandemic, once repair (electonics strip replacement) was covered by warranty, but took close to 4 months as there are only 2 certified companies in the area doing repairs (wait for appt, plus ordered wrong part from Germany, etc. etc). Second repair was minor (gasket on rinse compartment) but still.
Mieles used to be built like tanks, in Europe there is a robust second hand market for 8-10 yo dishwashers that still work great. But to compete on price point the newer models lack that level of reliability. To compound the issue, the availability of service in the US is miserable. In short, don't do it to yourself, but if you do, get extended warranty and lower your hot water temp setting +don't use sanitize mode (that's what burnt my powerstrip). |
| vendors i like: m&m, abw, adu, aj madison. you should be able to view in person at any of those |
OP here - thank you - this is good insight. I’m sorry it has been a lemon for you. That’s how I feel about my Kitchenaid!!!!! |

Bad experience at abw (with several sales staff). Much better at m&m. |

pp here. yeah, it varies a lot at abw. i've had one good experience, a couple meh, but they were the default vendor used by my builder. In the end I got my range and laundry machines from m&m, my fridge and and floor model sale wine fridge from adu, and my dishwasher from abw. my covid-era huge freezer i got from aj madison. i always try to go to m&m first. I also appreciate that they partnered with eric of candey hardware in their alexandria shop. in the early 2000s eric carried the full line of miele appliances and vacuums on the second floor of candey, which is how i outfitted my first place when i moved to dc. it was such a glorious old-school 100+ year old hardware store, and i miss it. |
