Why are 3 row cars hyped

The third row is practically unusable. Especially in the popular Highlander and Kia Sorrento. Are there cars where it is usable? We are a family of three (2 adults, 1 kid) and want a larger car for carpooling. It looks like it’s minivans or bust.

Honda Pilot. Pretty roomy for third row.

OP: You just don't have enough kids & dogs to understand.

Used the third row once in 7 years in a Toyota Highlander. Did use the third row in a minivan but kids were young and we were hauling a lot more stuff and people.

Heck yes its usable! We've had an explorer and expedition. The expedition is awesome - we use all rows. We car pool often, coach teams, take a bunch of teens to the mall, etc.

The Volkswagon Atlas has, according to Consumer Reports, "...a third row seat that truly fits adults.

The Subaru Ascent third row is pretty good if you select Captain's Chairs for the second row.

Also, check out the Dodge Durango third row seat.

Subaru Ascent third row is great.

Highlander is terrible, Pilot is meh.

Becasue people are too snobby for minivans.

Similar situation - two adults, one kid, wanted to have the option of a third row for when we were carpooling or had family visiting.

We ended up with one of the SUVs with an optional third row (MDX, but I think there’s a similar Mazda and Volvo) so we can put a few extra kids in the back row for short trips, but not have a huge car (and have a generous amount of cargo space with the third row down).

I don’t know how useable it would be with adults/adult size kids, but we’re about 10 years at least away from that!

OP here: Thanks for the recommendations. I am inclined towards a Hybrid, is Sienna my only option?

4xrunner will have a hybrid option in 2023

You are being ridiculous; unless you have 6 ft line backers the 3 rd row is fine for carpooling around the county.

I’m a 5’6” 140 LB adult and I find the back row cozy and functional. Basically by the time kids really start out growing it they will be driving their own car

The third row in a Highlander? You must be a contortionist!
