DS really wants to go to Georgetown. People seem surprised that he would want to go to Georgetown over UVA since they are similarly ranked and UVA would cost 1/3 the tuition. In our circles, tons of students go to UVA but very few seem to pick Georgetown.
Is it because of cost? |
| Well, friend, come back after both schools’ EA decisions on your kid’s app are in. Good luck. |
|
Are you coming from public or private OP?
|
| For one thing, they are in very different locations, which impacts one's experience. Many people would not choose an urban campus if they had a choice. Others do, since there are several universities in D.C., but that's not to everyone's taste. |
Georgetown is hard to get in, especially for engineering major. Their acceptance rate is practically 0%. |
Right. Because there is no engineering school. |
| Well for one thing, I believe UVA is a nicer campus...and if it's cheaper, this should be a no brainer. Georgetown big disappointment in our campus tour. |
But UVA is full of rednecks. |
|
Both are overrated but Georgetown significantly more so.
|
Is it? Hmm haven’t seen one yet. |
| Charolottesville around the campus is really nice, but you couldn't pay me enough to go to UVA. |
|
OP
1. UVA instate way less expensive so yes for some a consideration. 2. Religion Catholic not everyone is comfortable with a religious College. I personally would never send my kid given the Child Abuse scandal and the way it's been handled nope never. Georgetown is a great school, just not for everyone. |
Is GU “religious” at all? How, exactly? Priests and nuns teach classes? Required mass attendance? |
LOL you missed that it's Religious affiliation Roman Catholic (Jesuit) so yeah The Catholic church is involved. With prestigious Catholic thinkers on its faculty, a 51 percent Catholic student body, strong Mass attendance, and a robust campus ministry, Georgetown is a great place to be for a Catholic of serious faith. |
| Depends on the major but for safety, tech/engineering and in state tuition uva wins |
