Scissor kicks post-vaginal birth?

Anonymous
Hi friends - I've resumed barre classes now that I'm 2 months postpartum. Some of the floor ab work gives me a little pain in my vaginal/abdominal area however -- notably, scissor kicks! Anyone else have issue with scissor kicks?

My doctor cleared me and said I didn't have Diastasis Recti, but I'm still worried that some of these exercises will give me that dreaded stomach bulge...thoughts? anyone recommend any good ab workouts/videos to help? I don't have a waist anymore, and my stomach looks super wide -- I want to do cardio, but I heard running isn't good until a year PP? (running is my favorite cardio)

OMG calm down and ease yourself in. Your body is still healing. Not everything is going to be the same as it was before pregnancy. It takes time. Your husband won't leave you in the time it takes you get back into pre-pregnancy condition unless he's an ass.

See a pelvic floor PT. OBs are not good at diagnosing diastasis. And if your abs are turned off and not functioning properly (this happens to many women until you properly rehabilitate them) you’re going to have poor pressure management and be sending a lot of pressure downward into your pelvic floor. Try a postpartum rehab program like Mutu System.

Strongly support the idea of getting PT, but even though I haven’t had a bad diastatis, it still takes me about six months for my abs to return from the wars and even consider participating. Go to your classes but also talk to the PT about exercises that hurt and if they have recommendations for adjustments until your abs are fully participating again. I’ve given myself wrecked lower back pain by trying to jump back into normal training without PT. (I go to a normal PT but she’s certified for post partum work and had a kid about four months before I had my oldest so I love getting her advice on stuff.)

If your instructor is worth anything she should be able to give you a diastasis recti safe alternative. Everybody has it, just some have it more than others. My abs are still 1cm apart.
