Math 7 Honors question

Is MAths 7 honors an AAP math course in middle school? What is the MAth course in Gen Ed. DC was in AAP in elementary school. He thinks he is in Gen Ed maths as it seems so easy for him.

I have taught in several FCPS middle schools. None of them have had separate AAP sections of math--it's just "Honors algebra" or "Math 7 Honors". Anyone who qualified for the course can take it.

There are 3 levels of math offered to 7th graders (with rare exceptions like special needs or being insanely ahead)

Math 7
Math 7 honors (same as Math 8/prealgebra)
Algebra 1 honors

Math 7 honors should be almost completely a spiral of math 7 topics with some extensions pushing into baby algebra (e.g. m7 covers slope, m7h gives slope and y intercept). It's solidifying the prealgebra foundation in preparation for algebra 1.

Math 7 honors has aap kids and anyone else who elected to take math 7 honors.

Then he should have done better on the IAAT and his SOL.

If he was in AAP in Elementary school why didn't he continue the path in middle school?

Math 7 Honors is not AAP.

DC couldn't qualify to be in Algebra 1. IF MAths 7 honors is not for AAP, then what is for AAP kids if they don't qualify for Algebra 1?

AAP kids take Math 7H unless they test into Algebra.

AAP and Advanced Math kids who do not qualify for Algebra 1 Honors, take 7th Grade Honors. AAP/Advanced Math is essentially 7th grade math. 7th Grade Honors is essentially Pre Algebra.

The kid is whining that he's gen ed. Guess what, that's where he tested.

Math 7 Honors is not a Gen Ed class, it is an honors class. It is not an AAP class, there is no math AAP section. But a good number of kids take Math 7 and not Math 7 Honors.

It's a substantially similar syllabus to 6th grade advanced math.

I am sure that it is. Advanced Math is meant to create a path to Algebra in 7th grade. A good number of kids pass the IAAT and SOL at a high enough rate to take Algebra in 7th. Others don't and they take Math 7 Honors.

Math 7 Honors is still not a Gen Ed class, it is an Honors class. I would bet this year the class is more similar to 6th Grade Advanced Math because the kids missed a good amount of material last year and the Teachers are probably taking the opportunity to catch kids up.

The dude who made the comment about not passing the tests you need to take Algebra in 7th phrased it like an asshole but he is right. The kid had a chance to test into Algebra and it seems like they didn't test in. So this is the class that the kid has. They will get to take Algebra next year and hopefully it will be more challenging.

Content is similar but goes more in depth. I teach 7th grade math and 7th Honors.

Op here. This is really strange that if an AAP kid from 6th grade couldn’t qualify for Algebra 1 they have to take Maths 7 honors. And DC says maths 7 honors is nothing but 6th grade AAP. He is redoing it. He feels that he flunked that’s why redoing. Why an AAP kid has to take IAAT test and advance SOL so as to take Algebra 1. What’s the benefit of being in AAp and doing pre algebra in 6th grade. They were basically coached and taught to be ready for Algebra 1. Why these barriers to cross by these poor kids. So basically AAP is till 6th grade.
