Basketball hoop in street

Where on the street -might- be logical? Can you identify a place? Hopefully you can. You identify a place, you get other neighbors to agree. It gets mentioned to the basketball-owner neighbor, and you all help to move it.

A menace! Sure they shouldn't put it front of your house. But isn't this something kids do generally on quiet side streets? The type with generally big driveways and no real need for parking on the street other than visitors/3rd cars? Is the street space at that much of a premium?

I just can't see caring about some kids playing basketball.

Otherwise if it's not legally impacting your driveway, and you are not bothered enough/willing to have a conversation -- you accept it as an inconvenience of living in the suburbs.

We have a basketball hoop behind our house in the alley. I wish we didn't. Lots of random kids use it. Putting it in front of someone else's house is crazy and probably illegal.

Thank you. I feel seen.

You should park your car right under it.

A neighbor of mine did that and it worked. It is one thing to install a basketball hoop for your own child but if you start inviting the entire neighborhood it is a different ball game.

What if you have 5 kids?

This is simply un-American. Cars before kids, always!!

I agree. They are a nuisance.

Are you one to complain about kids these days on their phone and social media all day long? If so, a basketball hoop should please you people

No. This thread is full of a bunch of entitled AHs who complain about kids playing outside in “their” beloved extra parking spot one minute and then probably turn around and complain about excessive screen time for kids and “why don’t kids play outside anymore?” the next minute.

Won't someone think of the children?
Oh wait, wrong pearl clutching phrase...

But depends on your local laws, HOA. Probably better to ask them than a random forum of folks who don’t know your neighborhood rules.

No HOA. We are in Arlington. Where would I find out if this is allowed?

I am trying to figure out if it is illegal, you sound like you think it is - where can I verify this?

Good luck. When the neighbor is awful enough that they put the basketball hoop in front of someone else's house, that means you're probably not dealing with a thoughtful person.

That's the situation here.

There isn't a better place on the street. That's probably why they put it where it is. They could put it in their own driveway, but they don't seem to want to do that.
