It seems you don't know what you're talking about |
Not true. Depending on time of Day, Urbana could be an hour or less away. |
I live just south of Urbana, but still in FredCo. I went from my house (just off Rt 75) to Union Station in 55 minutes last week. The week before was a bit faster. I was in the car around 6:15/20. So got to the office a little past 7. Which is early for a lot of people,I know. But I don't mind since its only on occasion. Daily would be different |
I’m in Braddock (north of Urbana) and drive to DuPont Circle area. I have to be at work by 6am so I usually leave a little after 5am. Barring accidents, I always get to work in an hour or less. |
Yeah but when did you leave and how long did it take? |
Don't be dead set on a SFH. Get a townhouse. We did and love it |
I did this for a couple of years while living in a different city. Rode a commuter train, roughly an hour each way. Not having a commute is definitely the best option, but if you must have a commute, I *highly* recommend the train. I could either work or zone out, and either choice was 1,000x better than having to drive. There were a couple of times a year where the trains ran extremely late for one reason or another, and occasionally I had to work later than the time of the last train. My work hours were flexible and we could take a car service when we stayed extra late, so those situations represented headaches rather than emergencies. But it’s something to know about and plan for if you do consider the train option. |
This thread seems to be chock full of bad assumptions... |
This is so well said it’s worth repeating: the school district (MCPS) has made some terrible decisions over the last few years and you are no longer getting as good a school system the housing prices should merit. It’s why we left. |
Au contraire. Seems you know EXACTLY what you are talking about - with the additional point that the children of local politicians always seem to make it into the magnet side of the house. |
I assume OP meant durin standard working hours. |
Tell us more about Twinbrook ES. You are in RM cluster, correct? I know that Twinbrook ES has a low rating but can you tell us more about your experience? |
I would go hang out in that area, or drive around the neighborhood. Yes, homes are around 500k, but when we lived there, we had our car vandalized twice, and lots of sketchy things going on in our neighborhood, before we decided to pack up and move out To be fair, this was 12 years ago, so it may have changed. But I would still be cautious |
Um,I don't know. My sister moved to Urbana from the RM district and her middle school kids are claiming that they've already learned the stuff they're learning now at Urbana MS. At the end of the day, I don't care what they do at central office. I care about the curriculum. |
