Affordable housing prices + good schools

We are looking for the same thing but not vastly majority black. Also one hour commute max from K street.

What do you consider "vastly majority"?
Bowie High School and ERHS have 10% white kids. I wouldn't consider either one of them to be "vastly majority black". My concern is when my kid is the only white kid in a grade. For Elementary it was mostly ok but in MS and HS it might be a big issue. My kid had a rough year in upper elementary when they were they only white kid in the grade. Being the only anything is tough.

Are you open to going by train/park &ride for your commute into DC? That can open some things up. Drive 10-30 minutes to metro or commuters train then hope off new the office. Or metro/bus combo?

Also, think about what you mean by "good school"? Most of the review sights and people posting on hear have a lot of bias to white schools are ranked better. There are good school in Annapolis, Laurel ( few neighborhoods/ towns around there that are like 50/50 white and black,) PG county, Montgomery county maybe Rockville if you can go by train.
Unfortunately you really have to talk to realitors (probably not white realitors) and other families to get an idea. If you do end up in MD consider all the rec center options too. I am not sure if all the counties offer then but PG county (greenbelt, Bowie) has some great low cost opportunities for kids in families with their rec centers & libraries.

If you are open to a duplex of town home with a small yard you will find more options as well.
We have been keeping an eye out incase we more out of DC but prices are certainly higher than a couple years ago.

LOL!!! In what year were you able to find a SFH in 20878 for $500K?

Lots of places in PG county, but I can already guess that many on this forum will never "see" that.

All these places are the opposite of close in.

the worst school that feeds bethesda is still better than every other school in Silver Sprig and a silver spring school is better than all of PG

I’m in Greenbelt and I agree.

I don't think most of these places are within a 1 hour commute. The OP is posting in the schools other than MCPS forum. I think by definition that is places that are going to be farther away. I used to live about 2 miles from the Rockville metro and even that was more than an hour downtown--whether by driving to the metro or driving in.

Any neighborhood that feeds to Newport Mill MS and Einstein HS: rock view, Oakland terrace, flora singer.

Olney
Twinbrook
Maybe 20905, Stonegate neighborhood, but prices have really shot up.

Yes. They said good schools and up to an hour and affordable. You might be able to get some of that, but it's not going to be close in.

I don't know how you can come up with that nonsense. No school in Bethesda is academically better than Blair, none.
Unless by "better", you mean more whites...

Your drugs are clearly better, I’ll say that you have that going for you. If Blair was better people would move there. It’s the cheapest HS in close in MoCo, anybody can move there as seen by all the poor people who go there

So which one is it?
You are clearly an ignoramus. You demonstrated that perfectly clear.

If the OP wants diversity good public school any other county except PG. PG is strongly black community. unfortunately the schools aren’t the best other than private. If The commute is 1 hour max from dc, does that include traffic? 😁
Odenton has some nice brand new homes near the Marc Train.
I believe the schools there are better and more diverse. Howard county is very diverse but a bit expensive.

+1!

Another +1.

Greenbelt (And Eleanor Roosevelt High) is also a good option. But since Bowie is on Rt 50, which is a straight drive into DC, the commuting may be quicker. Greenbelt's traffic in that direction can be horrendous.

I know this comment is from last year, but still this PP doesn't seem to know about the dual nature of Blair.

There are essentially two schools in Blair, those that list in-bounds go to the standard school. But about 20% of the student population are magnet school students from all over the southern part of the county who qualify for the advanced magnet programs. There are some elective classes in the magnet programs that are available to the regular in-bound students, but for the most part, educationally the students are separate.

The standard school is not the most rigorous school and the local area is one of the cheaper areas of Montgomery County. That said, the magnet program is one of the best programs in the US.
