Calm down. It was a very weak weekend. $15M is nothing.

Paltry.

Goes to so how much streaming has demolished the box office.

Why didn’t this debut at a film festival?
That's the real issue. Covid and streaming destroyed the industry. Also the budget was WAY to large for what it was.

I haven't seen the movie and probably won't, but Zendaya is stunning and seems to have the best fashion intuition or the best stylist in the business.

I love Zendaya. The most mystifying thing about this movie in my eyes is why they cast two homely guys to compete for her love. (Though I did love Josh O'Connor in "The Crown."

Who cast this?

It’s distracting and too fake. She looks anorexic.

Maybe she’ll sell more tickets sure, but she’s a total lightweight to be playing an athlete. Should have done what the williams sister/will smith movie casting route - at least pick someone more believable as a tennis pro.

I read the script and it was clearly meant for a black actress with more of a traditional tennis build as the writer seemed to have someone more like the Williams sisters in mind. I love Zendaya but she is horribly miscast. Her build and posture are just super unathletic. The dudes are also miscast.

That was a biopic. This is fiction movie and the main point is not actually the tennis. Have we been so deprived of a range of different movies other than Marvel to not understand that?

Irrelevant. Lots of actresses could have placed the sexy scenes and the tennis scenes and not looked anorexic.
Bad casting.
Clearly they wanted zendaya to do her Europhoria seduction acting come hell or high water.

+1

Casting Zendaya makes no sense honestly. It makes the budget of this type of film bigger than it should be to accommodate her salary. And there are many different types of bodies under “thin”. Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams are also thin but have muscle definition and actually look like they could hit a serve 100+ mph.

What I noticed is that her form (meaning, tennis technique) leaves a lot to be desired. My coach would have a field day with her trying to correct her form.

She is far from petite and I would bet good money you are not a mid 50's mom with the same build as Z. There is no possible way. She is beyond thin.

This is what a tennis champion (challenger? Lol) actually looks like.

Serena winning Wimbledon in 2003.

She looks perfect and beautiful and athletic.

In your dreams, do you, a menopausal woman, have the same build as Zendaya. Lol.

Like I said, I’m not as tall as her, but otherwise yes.

Not everyone middle age is obese. Go to any USTA league match or tennis club and you will see lots of very fit women with similar body shape.

I play every week. No one in my club or any club I go to looks emaciated. None.

And not for young kids! This is not a Caitlyn clark or Serena williams plot.

What? This is actually a good movie.

Point was artsy tasty and Mama wasn’t a tall waif in heels supposedly playing tennis 5 hours a day.

Whelp, I can see how one ankle twist took her out.

No muscles to keep the ankle aligned well. And she wanted playing on her toes or in Ready stance ever.

John Goodman & Larry David were not available.

Counterpoint:

She would look like an Amazon standing next to Zendaya.

Sure she has a different body type than Serena, but those are muscles you see there.

No, those are nipples.

Why is this ugly woman forced down our throats? Of all the gorgeous women in America, THIS is the thing they pretend is a bombshell?

Total dud. But that didn't stop the PR from framing this as a HUGE success.
