It is pretty easy to tell when violent things are about to go down and look away - the boiling scene, also the cannon scene etc.. That said it was sold sort of as a weird romance and is much more a political/military focus. I thought the last 2 episodes made it worthwhile but it did bog down in the middle particularly the episode with the brother of toranaga which i had to come back to over several days to watch |
I loved the ending. I am so happy it was mostly in Japanese with English subtitles. |
This show was so meh.
It got so tedious and boring. Yes, the acting, production, and costumes were good. But very tedious after a while. I found myself falling asleep most times after episode 4. Blackthorne was a very clunky actor, although learning Japanese is probably hard. |
I found it annoying. |
So I am behind on watching this, but what was the deal with the pheasant? I get that one leaves it for a bit so it doesn't have rigor mortis, but why would Blackthorne be leaving it to the point that it is gathering flies and smelling? |
You can watch an English dubbed version. |
Blackthorne thinks that Japanese society is barbaric with no appreciation for any life. But English society at that time was extremely dirty and unhygenic as in they didn't take baths or wash their clothes, feces and refuse were left in the streets until livestock herds being taken to market swept it up, and they had no idea that poor food preparation spread disease. Blackthorne thought leaving a pheasant up until flies got into it and it fell off the rope was the best way to age/season it before cooking. |
And Trump Idolizes him. Both supremely DISGUSTING men |
He sounds like Russell Crowe. |
Already watched it. And it doesn’t make sense to speak Japanese to be “authentic” and subtitle when, for the most part, the priest, Blackthorn, and Mariko were speaking Portuguese. Why not have them speak it and subtitle it? |
