Arguing back and forth isn't going to change the minds of those who agree with the NRA. They cannot be swayed, just like I cannot be swayed in my beliefs that gun reform is necessary. Why not unite to create change in who represents us in congress? Just because your district is already blue doesn't mean that your efforts stop at the voting booth.

Many members of the nra want gun control. It’s their screwed up leadership that has taken over:

Is there a score card for politicians that support gun control? |
Or use the NRA ratings - in reverse. |
Here’s some great info but it’s a little outdated since it’s from 6/16. You can look up all the gun legislation that the representatives for your state have sponsored/cosponsored and their NRA rating. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/gun-legislation/ |
What is it that you think the Democrats are going to do in regards to gun control? They all say things like "we need gun control" and "we need to do something" and all the other empty statements, yet I haven't seen a single gun control measure presented by a Democrat that would make us safer.
So....If I swing blue, what exactly are they going to do? Actually, I'd apply that question to every major issue...what exactly are the Democrats proposing? They don't seem to ever say anything of value. They attack the republicans who at least have the guts to put their ideas forward (even when they are stupid) and all the Democrats do is call them names and tell you to vote for them instead, all while telling you nothing about what they would do. |
Clinton signed into law a provision preventing people with mental illness from obtaining guns. Trump let it expire and proactively signed an executive order (and a congressionally passed law) allowing people with mental illness to purchase guns. So its not really fair to say the dems did nothing. They have been trying since Sandy Hook to tighten things up. The GOP is unwilling to pass anything common sense. No one wants to take away guns, but AR-15's aren't used for hunting deer. Let's have an honest conversation on both sides to end up with something that provides licensing for guns, just like being able to fly a plane to drive a car, while keeping guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them - felons, mentally ill etc. It *shouldn't* be that hard. |
The same thing they did under BHO when they has all 3 parts of the machine. Nothing. It's just like DACA, the libs want the issue to rile their base, not the solution. |
There’s a whole thread about that here: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/704953.page TL;DR: a few months is not enough time to fix everything wrong that the Republicans have done over the last 37 years. |
The Assault Weapons Ban was another Democratic solution that was allowed to expire under a Republican Administration. |

My DH had a decent idea last night, blue states should start treating guns the way the right treats abortions. Legislate the #*$& out of it and test the boundaries and let the supreme court weigh in.
Make it a felony to be caught in california with a gun unregistered in that state. Make it a legal requirement to carry insurance on your guns in Massachussetts etc. |
... how does insurance help, of all things? Nevermind. Your DH is a little behind the curve. Many states already regulate guns extensively. |
DP. SOME states do regulate guns more than federal laws do. But to PPs point yes I do think we should focus more on changing individual state’s laws. I think there is a gun violence advocacy group doing this. Maybe Moms Demand? |
I used to think gun control was the answer. My research told me otherwise....
