She was superintendent for a small county in North Carolina with 13 schools and 7000 kids. Even in a district that small she couldn't do the job, the board bought her out of her contract early. She is a Shawn Joseph protégé - which should tell you all you need to know. She is nowhere near qualified to lead MCPS. The Board is a bunch of idiots if they hire her and they will end up in the same situation they were with McKnight in a year.

Starr. McKnight. Any other MCPS Super paid out in last few decades? Smith retired, or was he forced out?

Not long after his second MCPS contract was in place, Smith moved to Maine, where his wife was living, to help with a sick grandchild.

School superintendents, just like teachers, are leaving in droves. There's not a huge candidate pool to draw from that have experience with large, diverse school systems, so it doesn't matter what search firm they get, the candidates will be the same

Hopefully the search firm will reach out to people who might not otherwise apply but would be great

Who wants this job? Seriously!?

Pool of candidates is small!

What is the timeline on hiring? New person by next school year?

New person by July 1st.

Otherwise they have to name an interim for the school year.

When has an interim not been hired in the past?

Neither Smith nor Starr were interim superintendents first.

Weast was not interim either. So basically most have NOT been.

Exactly.

Did your family complete the survey? Apparently by tomorrow! What number survey is this, MCPS? Searched but didn't see this posted on here.
Begin message:
All families, students and community members are encouraged to take a few minutes to complete a brief online survey by April 26. Feedback collected in the survey, along with other public engagement, will help shape the development of a leadership profile. The Board will use the leadership profile to guide them as they consider candidates for superintendent of schools. The survey is available in multiple languages, including Spanish, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Korean, Vietnamese and Amharic.

Stay informed and engaged throughout the process by visiting the Superintendent Search webpage and following MCPS and the Board on social media.
