do you change toilets/toilet seats when you move?

I have never heard of this. It has never occurred to me. TBH I'm sort of stunned that people do! There are so many other things to be afraid of you don't need to make one up.

PP has a point. What do you do when you're at the 4 seasons in Istanbul for a week, hang your ass over the toilet ever time like you were in a McDs?

Soft close changed my life.

Yes and no. I like toto toilets with the soft close lids. So we have replaced, but not immediately.
