"No kids" restaurant! Would you go?

Anonymous
I'd assume a no kids restaurant would be really snooty and expensive.

Clearly a reaction to kids that run around in restaurants and parents of those kids who think its fine. Ditto leaving crap all over the floor in those restaurants and leaving some sort of extra tip as if that should compensate the wait staff. Note: it doesn't. (See numerous other threads on this topic) Yes I'd gladly go to restaurants that don't allow kids even though I have well behaved kids of my own.

I live in neighborhood and have no problem with it but I don't plan on going because none of Mango Mike's restaurants are very good, none. He is also a cheeseball. I think this is a huge publicity stunt and he is getting all this free press. I hope it is successful, but his other places the food is bad, not sure I would try sushi from him.

I'll go if it's good and have no problem with the policy.

The only thing that bugging me is all the Del Ray childless people who are going on and on about how they have nowhere to eat where kids aren't bothering them. We go on date nights all the time, and I've never even noticed kids at nicer places like Cheesetique, Evening Star, or Del Ray Cafe. I suppose it's because we're not eating at 5:30 pm. By around 7:30, the kids are pretty much gone (unless you're at the Dairy Godmother).

So many of you are talking about how it is fine, you/you're kids don't like sushi anyway.....change the food type....

Would you go to a pizza restaurant that had a policy of "no kids"?

Sure.

Question is would parents, on a date night without kids, patronize such a business? Or would you boycott it on general principles?

Why is the OP, who I know by the way, and other Del Ray residents getting their panties (in this case boxers) in a bunch over this sushi restaurant that does not want kids?

There are plenty of other kid friendly options in the area. And yes, if Im paying for a babysitter and leaving my children at home I would love to enjoy a quiet and peaceful date night without the ruckus of other kids. I dont think this is unreasonable at all.

Thing is, I don't think there really is local backlash. This post is the first I've heard of anyone caring, and I live in Del Ray. I think OP just needs something to talk about.

Probably not, but not because I'm taking a stand or am in any way outraged. I probably wouldn't go to a no-kid pizza place because my kid loves pizza and there are plenty of kid-friendly pizza places that we go as a family. So it would have to be something really special for us to get a sitter to go eat more pizza.

And this is totally legal. Plenty of venues are 18+ or 21+.

It's in Del Ray, for those asking. We're excited to go, as Del Ray is full offamily ffriendly places and it can be hard to get out for a date. And we're unaware of any controversy. As I said, tons of options to take kids to.

That's based on consumption of alcohol (being a bar).

I disagree.

First, people at age 18 cannot legally consume alcohol.

Second, a restaurant/bar ALWAYS has the option of checking ID prior to serving a customer. You can go to a bar and only order a soda... or food. It's the restaurant's/bar's choice to simply not admit anyone under the age of 21 because they don't trust the atmosphere (or perhaps employees).

Yes, I'd go. In fact I'd prefer it.

I will be trying it out, for sure. I am not a fan of Anderson's BBQ place in Del Ray (we were highly disappointed), but we like the burger place.

I read through some of the comments on The Patch article about it, and the number of supporters definitely outnumbered the dissenters. It is not clear to me why some people are personally offended by it.

I would love this& think more places should be child free after 8pm. I have 3 kids under 5 and when DH and I get out for a date night I don't want to hear someone else's crying baby at the palm (yes someone had an infant the last time we had dinner there at 8pm on a saturday night)
