I would take this up with the administration.

you can't be serious

You can't be serious youself?? You don't know of this trend? There are no winners and losers

you're not making any sense.

r u saying:

ban tag = don't want to keep score in kids' sports games

therefore

ban tag = There are no winners and losers

therefore

ban tag = kids/parents afraid of losing?

DCUM has messed up your brain.

There was a thread because a 4 yr. old boy called the OP's DD "Miss Muffet," and most PP encouraged her to tell the teacher or call the kid's parents! In fact, the little boy apparently said, "Miss Muffet...away," and someone talked about "hurtful" this was to the other child. The little girl wasn't even complaining and simply told her mother who had the meltdown. It is helicoptering moms who have created these absurd rules.

As a kid, I broke my arm roller skating. My best friend broke her leg (thigh bone) when her horse rolled on it. My neighbor burned his eyelashes, eyebrows, and half his hair while playing with fireworks. Another boy broke his leg on his brother's bicycle. We laughed about all this incidents at our 20th reunion last year. We had a blast growing up. We felt bad for the world our children live in.

Tag was recently banned from Bethesda Elementary due to a child running into a metal pole. Pretty traumatic injury requiring lots of stitches to the head.

And that was somehow the fault of the game? Nobody can conceive of the idea that perhaps a child could run into a pole because the child was....running? Is that next?

My son fell off a retaining wall (landscape type) where he was running on the top of it. Guess they couldn't figure out how to ban anything, and we figured he learned his (hard) lesson about paying attention to where he was running.

Ok, falling or any kind of outdoor activity can cause breaks, and then need for stiches.

Falling off of the playground equipment can cause injury as well.

Should we just ban all play because there is a potential for a kid to get hurt?

What is left, sitting in the grass?

Where do you draw the line?

Ouch. Freak accident though. Why should all poles and all running be banned from here on out? Lesson to kids: 'watch where you are running'. I yell this to my kids on a daily basis as they bike full speed ahead while turning around to talk to me at the same time. My little one likes to watch his reflection in store windows as he runs by--tripping on things as he goes.

My kid ran into a wrought iron gate outside of a Starbucks requiring a trip to the ER...I didn't try to sue Starbucks or not allow him to run anymore.

When my DS was four he broke his thumb badly and bonked his head because he was playing soccer in a gym and ran into the wall. I can't decide whether we should ban soccer, gyms, or walls. Opinions?

agree, lawyers (including me) often spend lots of time talking hysterical or unreasonable clients with inflated expectations, from pursuing their fucked up self-important agendas ... helicopter parents come in all stripes, professions, colors, shapes, etc.

blame them, not one profession.

Nope. I picked private school for many reasons, but in part because I wanted my kid to play tag at recess and have Halloween and Valentine's Day parties.

Actually, a fair amount of bullying goes on during the run and chase games. And, kids as young as kindergarten are doing the bullying. That's why it's banned in our school.

Give me a fucking break. You are creating victims with these policies. I think we need the parents that want to allow their kids to play tag, dodge ball, etc. sign to sign waivers. The pussies' kids can go play tiddlywinks.

Kids like to play, and sometimes, they get hurt. There is a lesson in getting up, brushing yourself off, and getting back in the game. And if teachers or administrators were actually watching the kids, they would be able to see if a child is being bullied on the playground and intervene. Banning running and chasing is why we have so many fat asses in this country.

Who doesn't remember playing tag or chase or just running around for no good reason on the school playground. Sure, we sometimes fell. I once split my lip open and my mom picked me up from the nurse's office. She didn't question who caused it to happen or insist that this harmful running game be banned. give.me.a.fucking.break.

Our school banned "cops and robbers" or any violent game. Said it "incites violent behavior."

Jesus, we are all a bunch of pussies.

No wonder the kids have started shooting up schools. Going to school in this day and age would make a sane person crack.

My kid plays tag at recess virtually every day and comes home filthy. That makes me very happy.
