My kids are at an Arlington school and they're allowed to play tag. Which school has banned tag?

Who doesn't remember playing tag or chase or just running around for no good reason on the school playground. Sure, we sometimes fell. I once split my lip open and my mom picked me up from the nurse's office. She didn't question who caused it to happen or insist that this harmful running game be banned. give.me.a.fucking.break.

I was outraged when I heard that our public elementary school doesn't allow Halloween or Valentine's Day parties. Not being allowed to play tag takes the cake! We've really wrestled with the private vs public school question and stories like this put an end to any doubts in mind as to which way we'll go. It's just a shame that we live in a society with so many rules that don't make any sense.

Our private school doesn't allow tag either. My son said they were told they weren't allowed to play but he doesn't care b/c he's usually playing basketball. I agree this is rather extreme. But we are really a culture of blamers and worriers. There are no "accidents" any longer. When a girl broke her arm after falling off the monkey bars at school, the reaction was largely one of well they aren't well supervised on the playground. It's the teachers' fault instead of what I thought was the normal reaction: that's too bad. kids have accidents.

FWIW, my daughter is in a Montgomery county public elementary school and tag is pretty much all she and her friends play at recess so hopefully the trend isn't spreading across the region. OP, I agree with the other PPs and say you should talk to the school about this b/c it's absolutely ridiculous.

Did you hear about the school that took away a child's lunch from home (turkey sandwich, chips and an apple) because it didn't meet guidelines for a healthy lunch? The school gave her chicken nuggets from the cafeteria instead because processed, fried, fatty chicken parts are so much better. That is where we are heading.

As a parent of a child with Celiac (I have it too), there is no way they can ever feed my kid. Thank god we are at a private school!
