What do you think of the name Josie?

Mother of a Josephine, we call her Josie. I don't think anyone even knows she's a Josephine, but it gives her options as she gets older.

I'm surprised at how many "Josie" posts I'm seeing here. Of course we thought we were so original.

Totally! I wonder about the parents who named their child Ava. Do they consider that is Hitler's wife? Or how could you name your child Sophia because of Sophia Perovskaya who helped murder Alexander II. Think of all the horrible people in history but yet the names live on. I'm sure you could find your children have names that have bad things/people associated with them. Yet, Josie Duggar has done nothing more than be born to a family that happens to be on TV. How horrifying of an association...yes, by all means...ban the name!

For all you parents who named your child Josie. Shame.

PP again. It also makes me think of Josie and the Pussycats.

Josie mom here - thanks to all the posters reminding me of all these great Josie songs! Now I can totally annoy my DD as she gets older.

LOVE it. I know a little girl ( 6 ) with the name Josie, not nn, and it suits her perfectly. It's sassy and different. I also have a child whose name is a very common nickname, Maggie, ( yes, just Maggie ) and we have gotten a lot of compliments on her name and how it fits her. We thought twice about it at first but now I am very happy we went with our gut decision. If you love a name, you love it.

Ironically, I was just thinking about this movie the other day, before seeing this post. This was the first thing I thought of, too. Why was I thinking about the movie? I was thinking how very cute Michael Vartan used to be and how creepy the storyline of this movie was. How is it appropriate for a mainstream movie to be about a teacher falling in love with his high school student?

We named our daughter Josie as a first name and have given her a more classic middle name. If she decides that she doesn't like Josie as an older woman, she can opt for her middle name. We thought about Josephine as a first name, but it seemed like we were backing into the name we really like which was Josie.

As for the Josie Grossie taunt ... Virtually every name can be rhymed with something nasty or unpleasant - just ask any second grader. I wouldn't let that deter you.
