What do you think of the name Josie?

I'm do in a few a weeks, and DH and I are leaning towards the name Josie, but my mother-in-law says "it's a nickname, not a name" -

What do you think of the name Josie?

I love it - so cute. But both of the Josies I know are indeed nicknames. I too had picked a nickname for my daughter and others convinced me to name her the "real" name and just call her the nickname, so I did, but I regret it. Some of our extended family insist on calling her by her "real" name and there's the dealing with making sure she's called the nickname at school and that sort of thing. Since I never at all intended for her to go by the "real" name, I wish I had just named her the nickname inthe first place.

OP here: Both of the Josies? Is it a popular name?

Not that PP (I am a PP who said I think it is a very cute nickname) but I also know two Josies (one is Josephine and the other is Josephina, I think).

I know a teenaged Josie (short for Josephine) and it suits her perfectly.

When Josie comes home, she'll be the pride of the neighborhood.

It's a super adorable nickname for Josephine, but I would never use it by itself.

I know one Josie, just Josie, and one Josie, short for Josephine. The latter is in DD's preschool class and I never knew it was short for Josephine until I saw it on official paperwork. She is the cutest little thing, and the name is so fitting.

I also know a Josephine that goes by Joey.

Love it and strongly considered it, but decided it wasnt serious enough or adult enough. Amazing on a 5 yr old, but at 35 or 50, not so much!!
