What do you think of the boy name "Kai"?

20:11 here again - I agree with 19:56. People react negatively to ANY name. The people who hate names like Kai probably named their kids Mason and Sophie. Different names for different folks.

1720 boys named Kai were born last year in the U.S., compared to fewer than 249 girls. It's not a femme name. (You do get that this name rhymes with eye, and not day, right?)

Thanks, I'll tell my 45-year-old German friend, Kai--he'd want to know.

My brother's name was Kai. In his case it is a Danish origin name. He always liked it and he grew up in an era with way fewer unusual names.

It's not all that unique. I grew up in Hawaii and knew plenty of people with Kai as either a first or middle name. It's very, very popular in Hawaii.

Is that short for Kaiser? I'm really asking. Because I like "Kaiser".

I like the name...for a girl.

I've known three people - all boys/men - with the name Kai in my life. Of the three, only one was Asian, and even then only 1/2 Asian. I've never heard of this name for a girl. I like it!

I don't know any female Kais. Every Kai I know has been male.

Some people like really masculine names for females. I know a little girl named James.

Love it! It doesn't fit with our ethnic backgrounds (despite being a name that is in/from several different cultures and languages) so DH was uncomfortable with it for appropriation reasons. I love that it has so many positive meanings and is such a deeply-rooted nature name.

I know two boys named Kai, one about 10 years old and one newborn. Both are in multiracial families.

The name suits him well. Love it. Kind of hope it doesn't catch on, as we purposely avoided all the Jayden/Ayden/Kayden/Brayden names.

Do you mean catch on with white Americans? Because it's a popular name in many other parts of the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kai_%28name%29
